Laurie,

This is the very similar to the program that Lynn O'Shea @ AID in Kane/Kendall is starting thru local high schools and Delnor Hospital in Geneva. It would take place during their "last" year of High School - probably their 5th. They would only be in the high school about 1 hour a day. The rest of the day would be at the hospital in a classroom/teaching area or actually learning or doing a "job" at the hospital. They then could be hired by other hospitals when they graduated.

This is a healthcare industry initiative that is very interesting and inspirational...does anyone know of any Illinois hospitals that are replicating this? It says they provide training for replication. Here's the link:http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/svc/alpha/p/search/Happy reading!

Thanks for this info, Laurie.

I passed it on to our Voc. Coordinator at NSSED and several others who may find it useful.

Where can I find more info on:

1. A collaborative program (ELA...Enriched Lifestyles for Adults)) between our special rec provider (NSSRA) and The Center for Enriched Living, 2. A community based day program called ACT (Adult Community Transition Program)that focuses on vocational through jobs and volunteer opportunities,

We each need to be creative in order to do more with less money. And it seems it will get worse before it gets better!

You are right, . The best sense I get is that collaborative programming and pooling of multiple resources and funding streams will be necessary in order to promote best practice in community based supports and services.

The other priority needs to be grassroots pressure on the legislature, DHS and the administration to close state operated facilities both to provide the best possible future for all individuals with developmental disabilities and to be a more responsible steward of our limited financial resources.
