Guest guest
All Lymies Please get as many people as you can to e-mail Senator Moynihan. as soon as possible. Here is his homepage url and other senators involved as well. It is good to read his biography and then write a short e-mail appealing to his fairness and asking him to look without political motivation into Dr. Burrasccano's activities and Lyme treatments which are being used by most Lyme doctors in the United States and are helping many people to be more productive . Mentioning your belief in America is a good thing as well. Letters should be hopeful, encouraging and upbeat showing a belief in his excellent reputation for helping people through his activites in the medical community. Mentioning someone or yourself in relation to Lyme is a good idea too. Fighting politics with politics----Cheryl in N. California http://www.senate.gov/~moynihan/ http://www.senate.gov/~schumer/index.html http://www.senate.gov/~kennedy/ Here is the rehash of the crisis update: LLMDs ARE UNDER ATTACK! >> Action is needed to save Dr. Joe Burrascano from the hostile forces of >> Lyme conservatism. A complaint has been filed against him to the New >> York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct >> (OPMC). He was interviewed on July 2. Patient files have been removed >> from his office and will be searched for evidence of " unprofessional >> conduct. " >> >> If you wish to help Dr. Burrascano and other LLMDs, it is important to >> act quickly. New York elected officials begin a MONTH-long break at the >> end of THIS week. This may be true of Federal officials as well, but >> this isn't clear. A massive outpouring of calls, faxes and letters is >> needed immediately. >> >> The intention of the OPMC reporting law was to protect patients from >> unprofessional conduct by physicians (such as inappropriate use of >> medications and the like). Using the process to threaten, intimidate and >> restrict certain physicians (particularly LLMDs) is clearly politically >> motivated. By law, all complaints must be investigated, but the >> complainant is allowed to remain anonymous. >> >> Since his 1993 testimony before the US Senate Labor and Human Resources >> committee chaired by Senator Ted Kennedy, Dr Burrascano has been >> repeatedly subjected to investigations where files of his patients have >> been pulled and his diagnostic and treatment standards questioned. So >> far he has always successfully defended himself, but of course not >> without substantial legal costs. There is no guarantee that he will be >> successful this time. But elected officials, if convinced of the >> injustice of the attack against him, might find a way to help him. The >> stakes are high: He is one of our highest profile LLMDs. He publishes, >> in respected medical journals (e.g. Conn's Current Therapy), diagnostic >> and treatment guidelines that have opened the doors for many of us to >> receive the treatments that allow us to heal. He consults with many >> physicians with difficult-to-treat patients. He is the recipient of the >> Lyme Disease Resource Center's 1998 Distinguished Physician Award. >> >> OTHER DOCTORS HAVE BEEN AND ARE BEING TARGETED >> Numerous other Lyme doctors have been targeted and had licenses >> restricted by state medical boards. Others are currently facing charges. >> Significantly, allegations are generally not based on complaints from >> patients. To the contrary, patients have jumped to the defense of their >> treating doctors. In one case (Natole, Mich.), when the State Medical >> Board overruled the judge who found no evidence of wrongdoing, >> restricted Natole's license and gave him a large fine for " overtreating >> and overdiagnosing Lyme disease, " large numbers of Natole's patients >> showed up in court to support him. Many contributed money for his >> defense. Many doctors, unwilling to contend with harassment and >> intimidation by medical boards, have closed their doors to Lyme >> patients. This is a serious problem which patients must do everything >> they can to put a stop to, while we still have any LLMDs left. >> >> We know of other doctors who have been targets of reprisals for their >> liberal approach to Lyme: Watky (CT), Brown (OR), Swami (PA), Pietrucha >> (NJ) and others. These political persecutions have a chilling effect on >> doctors' willingness and ability to accept Lyme patients. >> >> WE NEED TO ACT NOW >> A very large outpouring of letters, faxes, and calls to Senator Kennedy >> (who hosted the original Senate hearing) plus NY Senators Schumer and >> Moynihan and Governor Pataki could be helpful now, if done quickly. >> Writers/callers might wish to protest the politically motivated, >> unfounded harassment of front-line Lyme physicians now taking place in >> various states. They may wish to express their opinions about whether >> scientific debates (like the proper diagnosis and treatment of Lyme >> disease) should be decided by scientists in open scientific forum or in >> secret proceedings alleging professional misconduct. What is the danger >> of allowing the views of a minority of doctors to set the standard of >> care for Lyme disease? (NY State hires Dattwyler of SUNY >> Stonybrook to review such cases. Dr. Steere offered testimony in the >> Natole case.) Is there a conflict of interest when doctors testify >> against others who may be competing for patients or research funding? >> >> OTHER ACTIONS >> Support group leaders may wish to contact their members and encourage >> everyone to help. People don't need to live in New York to call or fax >> the NY senators, and patients (or other doctors) may wish to contact >> their own senators and representatives as well. New York Governor Pataki >> may be interested in hearing from people. >> >> REMEMBER: The MONTH-long summer break for NY elected officials begins at >> the end of this week. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Great ideas, thanks for sharing. You know when Lyme-aid was first founded, I did not want it to be involved in political issues on Lyme disease, there are plenty of other forums for that, I wanted to offer support, and information, and exchange between people about this disease, a quiet, peaceful area on the net....well, I sure have to bend this rule now. If we don't save Dr B. we are all in big trouble, I am begging each and every one of you to please send at least one letter on behalf of Dr Burrascano. More if you have the energy. If we lose Dr B. our own doctors will be next, no one will want to treat us, and we will be left to linger and die. This is so important to all of us I cannot stress this enough. This good doctor has devoted his practice to Lyme disease, attended conferences and senate hearing fighting for us, the least we can do is to let our voices be heard now. Please ask family and friends to write too. We can make a difference! Guest guest
Everyone, I can't remember the bbb routine.. I know the ratio is 1:4:2 but can't remember if the breath in is through the nose or mouth. I know that the exhale is the opposite of the inhale so once I get the inhale, I'll know the exhale (talk about sounding mumble jumbled..no one would every understand this unless they knew what bbb is!!) I've been doing them on the way to and from work but am taking the breath in through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Also, If I remember correctly, we tighen our abs on the exhale. It is not easy blowing out through the mouth so I am wondering if the inhale should be through the mouth and the exhale trhough the nose. please let me know so I can get the best benefit from it. Did 30 ll so far today and about 40 bbb (although not sure if they are right)..hope to do 30 more ll this pm and body blade..did that for 5 minutes yesterday also with the bbb and ll...all of these letters. glad you all know what it means. I haven't braved the scale yet. I'll know when I start loosing inches from my clothes.. Thanks, Ellen

Is it a pump, like a Synchromed? I'm very interested as I'm having surgery on the 29th. > Well, at least I still have my nice cages packed with morphogenetic > Infusium from our friends at Medtronic DEAR ALL: As stated above, I will be having fusion/possible sm. osteotomy per Dr. Moreno in FL on Jan. 29th. I had previously scheduled with Dr. Errico in NY. PLEASE DO NOT THINK THAT I CANCELLED MY SURGERY BECAUSE OF DR. ERRICO!!!! I found him to be a very competent, & compassionate surgeon. This guy knows his stuff. My reasons for changing physicians were due to hospital policies. I am much more comfortable with the policies of the hospital Dr. Moreno uses. This is something that I have given a great deal of thought to, as well as a great deal of prayer. I will be going offline in a few days. Will try to get someone to update everyone for me. Guest guest
Hi Carla Kay, The 29th will be upon us soon, and I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Good for you for following your own instincts, etc. as to the choice of hospital. Needless to say, we'll be waiting to hear the good word afterward! Best of luck, Carole

Guest guest
, If you start them young, children are the best connectors, because they haven't " learned " that doing things like immunics is " silly. " They haven't " learned " that it can't work. So they believe. They don't question it. They just do it. That is important -- to JUST DO IT! We could all learn from your 7-yo.
