Guest guest
Please join us in welcoming Jackie Marquette, Ph.D., author of 'Becoming Remarkably Able: Walking the Path to Talents, Interests, and Personal Growth for Individuals with ASDs and Related Disabilities'. The topic this week is PLANNING FOR TRANSITION and Jackie welcomes questions about the following areas: 1) Transition and Quality of Life - what is quality of life and how do you discover and define what that means for your loved one 2) Role of the Professional 3) Role of the Family 4) Roles of Adolescents and Young Adults 5) Walking the Path - Exploring Gifts, Developing Friendships, Leisure, Employment, Reframing Assumptions & Doubts Think of this as a 'conceptual' way of thinking about transition -- Jackie's consulting practice is in Kentucky, so she will not necessarily know about Illinois-specific practices. However, in January we'll be hosting another Ask the Expert, Sue Walter from the Illinois Dept. of Special Education, who will be available to answer any ILLINOIS SPECIFIC questions, make referrals to local resources, etc. So post your questions this week to Jackie about the WHO's, HOWs, WHENs, and WHYs in planning for a successful transition! She'll be answering questions in the evenings, probably just once a day, as she's busy working at her paying job during the day. This she's doing for us for free and don't we appreciate it! REMINDER: When you post a question, put Question for Jackie or Ask the Expert in the Subject Line of the Email -- that way Jackie can easily scan through the posts and respond to those directed to her. Questions can be posted at any time of the day or night, from today at 12:00 thru this Thursday -- and she will plan to respond to all in the evening after work. Thanks and a big IPADD welcome to Jackie Marquette! Your moderators, Laurie, Ellen and Marie
