some of your strategies have been to cope with the pressures of aging

parents and family members along with the responsibilities and

stresses of parenting a child with extra special needs?

Well, I am 68 yo, and my wife is 70 yo. We live in Colorado.

Are we " aging parents? "

We are both developing conditions that limit our ability to provide

assistance to Andy, our 40 yo son. Fortunately, he is well situated in a host

home,

but his current medical deterioration still requires our support. He was

recently hospitalized, and I stayed in the hospital with him overnight - 36

hours straight - and it practically wore me out.

In the meantime, my mom is 93 yo. and lives in CA. Fortunately (for me) my

sister (70) is able to take care of her in CA, although my sis has had two

bouts of cancer, and currently has a heart condition.

It gets to be a real problem!

My mom wants to stay " independent " although she requires a lot of care and

should be in assisted living. My sis and she have a very co-dependent

relationship.

Thanks for sharing...the problems are the same, whether you live in Chicago or

Colorado! It is a real challenge to be aging parents WITH aging parents and

also be responsible for aging children with developmental disabilities.

Denver, I hope your son is doing better now.

For those of you who are not aware, Denver Fox, from Colorado, created a

listserv similar to IPADDU, but he did it first!
