Guest guest
Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Standard form for students going to college--shows what grants and loans you'd qualify for. Most colleges use it as the starting point for student aid. I'm trying to figure out which way to file this--to claim Neal as a dependent and then include his SSI money as our household income, or to not claim Neal as a dependent. Guest guest
Hi, When we filled out the FASFA, because our " dependent adult child " worked and received Social Security, my husband and I did not claim him. Our daughter applied to many schools, and the private ones, I wrote a " special situation " letter explaining our support of our son. Our daughter ended up going to a state school, but the private schools did offer some financial aid. Kay G Mrozak <mrsovaltine@...> wrote: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Guest guest
Thanks, Kay. This makes a lot of sense. In the books I've read about college aid, it recommends filing FAFSA, and filling out whatever financial aid forms the college(s) want, and then AFTER hearing what's offered, sending your " here's our special case story " letter. I swear, the whole process reminds me of buying a used car. Offer, counter offer, etc. Since my son is going to College of DuPage for 2 years, he won't get a deal from them anyway. But I'm filing this for practice for later, and to hedge our bets. If our financial situation changes during the year and we do need help, then I need to have this thing filed. I hate government paperwork. And I just had to reapply for SSI (Neal is on layoff), and justify his situation for Medicaid. Arrrrgh. -Gail kk elmore <kelmore@...> wrote: Hi, When we filled out the FASFA, because our " dependent adult child " worked and received Social Security, my husband and I did not claim him.
