Guest guest
Just wanted to share a medication for SIB's that works amazingly well for our son. Pat is almost 18 years old and has been on Naltrexone for 6 years - 25 mgs. It is an anti-opiate. It has reduced his SIB's by about 80%. This is a drug that is used for drug addiction and alcholics. The idea is that the person doing the SIB receives a " high " - or opiate response from that behavior. This drug blocks that - so the persona has a more " typical " pain response. Pat has not expereinced any side effects. Pat's SIB's were head banging, toe-nail picking, hand biting. The only behavior he still does, but GREATLY reduced is hand biting. I hope this is helpful information. I would be curious to know if any others have had success with SIB's.
