Guest guest
, I am so happy that the rubber ball is working for you. I've talked about it here and there, so it might have been that I was the someone that mentioned the ball on this list. I have a " Biggins " which is sold at toy stores, is about three feet in diameter and when I bought it for my kids just a few years ago it was $20. For those of you that have kids, the kids love it and their friends always go to it like a magnet. So overall it's a good investment. Though it's great that the ball helped you, I've been too fatigued lately to get on the ball myself. Your testimonial will help motivate me to try it again as soon as I am able. BarbS << A while back, someone on this board mentioned a large rubber ball for bouncing. I bought one and its terrific. It's called Resist-a-Ball and available at sporting goods stores for about $30. The 55cm. (almost 2 feet)diameter ball size works well. You can just sit on it and bounce. Other then stretching, it's the only exercise I can get. I can't stand up long enough to use the mini-trampoline. It definitely has been beneficial. >>

Guest guest
Hello everyone. I have an appointment with an MD who practices alternative medicine tomorrow. I know nothing about this woman, except that she is around 50. What questions might I ask her to determine her competence and to assess whether she has stayed current regarding the latest research and treatments? Also, can you suggest any web pages I should print out and bring with me? Thanks,
Guest guest
I wished people would stop saying their questions are 'ignorant'... Ignorance is NOT asking a question. NO question is ignorant or silly.... The only silliness is someone to afraid to ask. Also, addressing themselves as ignorant, also deters others from asking questions for fear they may be called 'stupid, dumb, ignorant, idiot, silly'... None of us are those things.. We are all smart, intellegent people...who ask questions for knowledge. As my Mom says " Knowledge is Power, and the way to get knowledge is by asking questions and LISTENING to the answers, and on occasion, challange the question, but never be afraid to ask the initial question " (sounds pretty preachy coming from me...but I just get so sad when i see someone say they're questions are ignorant....because YOU'RE NOT).. Anyways... My question.. Is emu oil good for your skin? And how is it good for your skin? Can you use it only in soaps, or can you use it for shampoos, and lotions too? Ive never used this, and would like to hear peoples success-failers on this. i just found out the poor animals actually are killed to get this (i wouldnt have bought it had i known it...but now wont waste it, or its had its life taken in TOTAL vain & wont buy it again)... Thanks. Keep them questions rollin... Blessings.. Moe
Guest guest
<< Mark gets 1 mg in the am and 2 at bedtime, at noon he gets 1/2 of a .5 mg of clonidine...chills his butt out...Just a thought. Jeannie >> Hi, Everyone........Jeannie.......... Does this Clonidine do the same as Ritalin or does Mark also get Ritalin? Does he have the OCD problems really bad like Gareth? Gareth gets 2 mg of Risperdal am and 2 mg at bedtime. He takes Ritalin at 8 am and noon for school. He's can also be nasty in the afternoons, but I figured it was because he was coming off the Ritalin. It's not something that's a big problem. I guess there are more serious behaviors to be concerned about for Gareth. Take care, Everyone. Margaret

She wants to add time released Ritalin in addition to Risperdal and Naltrexone. He was on regular Ritalin for many years (About 7 years), when in December after surgery, he developed a tic related to Ritalin. So we discontinued it, but she wants to try again, this time with time released stuff. I am changing the administration time of Risperdal, from bedtime to right after school and see if that helps the late afternoon/evening melt downs. She did suggest a psychologist experienced with moderately-severely-profoundly retarded people and behavior modification stuff. I'll have to check and see if she is on our insurance. Probably not! I may pay out of pocket anyway. Also had the determination meeting this morning where they said officially that he has autism! ISnt' that wonderful??? I have been telling them for a year, but they now agree. Meeting actually went well. Thank goodness. Lori- don't give up. YOu are teaching your children (both of them) much more than academics. And, try " testing " him again later. It is very common to " forget " lots of things, and then " remember " them later. He may be having an off day. Find a way to " play " like your felt board idea, and that will prove that he does indeed know it. Major headache time-maybe I am getting migranes as they seem to be very, very, bad and directly related to periods. Cant' think in full sentences. Prayer, please. I used to get whopper PMS headaches - I would know when my period was coming by the headache. They lasted a few years consistently and now I only get them occasionally. Guest guest
Dear Connie: Your situation may be slightly different than most concerning vision, because of your diabetes, and some other situations. But, there are many cases of vision changing when on interferon. Some have seen their vision getting worse during therapy, and that is why it is suggested not to wear contacts during therapy. The positive thing is that, after therapy is stopped, many find their vision has improved. This also happened to Debbie. After she finished, she found that her reading vision was improved, and she finds reading with glasses harder for these, but, her distance vision is about the same as pre-therapy. I have many patients that have experienced the same thing, but, there is no way of telling until everything is completed. Most, if there are no other outside factors, either stay the same, or get better. Marty

Guest guest
Someone mentioned that Dr. ll Erwin has retired. Does anyone know if he has referred his patients to another doctor in Houston? Also, has anyone had any luck with a corset? I wore one for about 3 months after my cast came off.....oh...24 years ago. LOL I doubt it would still fit. ;-) But I'm wondering if having another one fitted would be beneficial. I'm concerned about getting " dependent " on it. Would it weaken the muscles even more? We just found out we are pregnant with our 5th natural child. I am trying to be very careful with my back right from the beginning, so I don't have any problems during the pregnancy. I also have a problem with severe varicose veins in one leg only. My whole right leg swells and turns blue, while the other leg doesn't even have a spider vain! My dr. is convinced it's because of the fact my scoliosis has the baby positioned funny, possibly sitting on an artery or something. Therefore, I'm considering one of those " maternity back support belts. " Apparently it " lifts " the baby up and supports your back with metal stays. Has anyone tried this with good results? I seem to be having more frequent lower back pain (even before pregnancy). As an update, I have a 78 degree S curve (post surgery). The curve is higher up. In fact it caused me to lose about half my lung capacity. I'm wondering why this would cause so much lower back pain, while I have virtually no pain elsewhere. The pain is right at the spot where my scar make an indention in my back. Does that make sense? Also, does anyone else have a hyper-sensitive scar? I absolutely can't stand to have my scar touched. Not that it's necessary, but I'm just wondering if this is common. Sorry to have rambled, it's just so unique for me to have anyone in the world to talk to that could even possibly understand some of what I deal with in this area. In His Service, Mc mcmom@... Guest guest
Dave, I am wondering if you could tell me anyhting about Abilitly Camp. I am scheduled to take my 5 year old son there in Feb. I am not sure if this will happen or not yet, only because Connor is still wearing a Halo, due to his accident, and due to the recent surgery he had to fuse C1 and C2 of his vertebrea. I need this removed before we go. I have contacted them and feel very excited about their program. I am feeling very nervous to be away from my other 2 children, but have been contacted by their facility and felt such a warm and loving feeling over the phone! It seems to me from reading your post you will be newbies too, if I am wrong, I will be very excited about your knowelege of the camp. If I am right about your newbie status, regardless, we will be getting there when you will be leaving. We are currently scheduled for the Feb 10 - Mar 14 time frame. Maybe we can meet? All of this depends on the Halo of course, but we are pretty cretain it will be removed before our intended departure. The plan is, my husband will drive us there, then he will fly home. My car is an Intrepid, sports addition. Now my husband is worried if that will get us through the snow. We have discussed the 3 of us flying in, and renting a 4 wheel drive for the 5 weeks my son and I are there. I was just wondering if you can give me any insights or information. One of my biggest concerns, in addition to all obvious, is being isolated for the 5 weeks I am there. We have a cell phone, with free long distanse, but don't know if Canada is in the plan. My other biggest concern is staying in touch with all my on line support groups.......... is their a computer to access? I will be leaving my 8 year old son, and 7 year old daughter to come for this therapy for my 5 year old son, who sustained a TBI on 7/07/02. My other 2 children had a very hard time adjusting to my being gone for the 7 weeks of initial Rehab......... and we were only an hour away, and they came every weekend. I know this will not be possible when we go to Canada, I have been a stay at home Mom since my oldest was born. Any help you can give me will be greatfully received. Guest guest
Tiffant, Our knowledge of Ability camp is only based on what we have read in documents and on the net as well as our conversations on the phone with Sandy. We will be renting another van or full-size car and driving up our van full of 's stuff as well. My wife is a stay at home mom as you are and our two daughters, ages 10 and 8, will miss her. Being snowed into the camp for 5 weeks is a disconcerting feeling. Hopefully it won't happen. Toronto is quite a long way from Picton, so we ruled out flying into or out of Toronto. I hope that Sprint PCS works in Picton as well. Cell Phone communication made my trip to Florida to Ocean Hyperbaric Institute, with much easier. My wife will be in the same boat that you will be in, only a month earlier. I appreciate the hardships that you have expressed. We also have good/hopeful expectations of progress for our son. If you want to send me your phone number directly, off of this listserve, send it to snowflakes@... and perhaps my wife will be able to call you from camp in January in order to give your her impressions. Thanks for posting this email. Take Care and God Bless. Dave Snow -- Re: [ ] Digest Number 382 > Dave, I am wondering if you could tell me anyhting about Abilitly Camp.
