The Loyola Adult Guardianship Help Desk offers help to individuals

who do not have a lawyer and who want to file for guardianship of the

person for a disabled adult. The Loyola Adult Guardianship Help Desk

is staffed by law students from Loyola University Chicago School of

Law. The staff will help you understand the procedure for filing for

guardianship and for filling out forms, but the staff cannot offer

legal advice. The staff will provide assistance regarding

guardianship of the person only, not guardianship of the estate. You

will be seen on a first come, first served basis.

The Help Desk is operated by the Loyola University Elder Law

Initiative. For more information or updated help desk hours, please

call the Elder Law Clinic at (312) 915-6775.

Guardianship for Minors

Guardianship Assistance Desk for Minors

Location: Room 1020, Cook County Administration Building, 69 West

Washington

arranged at your request.

This Desk can help you if you are trying to get guardianship of a

minor. Court staff and a Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS)

attorney will meet with you if you are qualified and will help you

prepare the necessary court documents. If you have a complicated

case, CVLS will find a lawyer to represent you for free. This Desk

can help you with guardianship of the person only, not guardianship

of the estate. The staff also offers self-help packets if you want to

prepare your own forms. The packets contain necessary forms with

instructions on how the forms should be prepared and explanations on

guardianship requirements. This Assistance Desk for Minors is a joint

initiative of the Circuit Court, The Chicago Bar Foundation and

Here's another place that provides free legal assistance for those who live in

Chicago, have

a low income, and have a disability or a familiy member with a disability. They

handle

different types of cases, including guardianship and special education. The

web address

and phone number are at the end.

Good luck everyone, I have learned a lot from the posts.

Pro Bono Center for Disability and Elder Law

Founded in 1984 by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association and

housed

by the renowned Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, The Center for Disability

and Elder

Law (CDEL) is 501 c (3) not-for-profit full-service pro bono legal services

organization,

serving low-income elderly and disabled Cook County residents. CDEL handles

cases in all

practice areas, excluding criminal and personal injury law. Over the past two

decades,

CDEL has provided quality pro bono legal assistance to more than 40,000

individuals

marginalized by poverty, disability and age.

To accomplish our dual mission, CDEL maintains a model that guarantees the most

cost

effective and efficient delivery of pro bono legal services in the industry.

Indeed, CDEL's

proven model is not only results driven, but specifically addresses and meets

the

challenges of staying innovative and current in the provision of pro bono legal

services,

while meeting the civil legal needs of our high volume clientele.

CDEL utilizes the services of 900 volunteer attorneys and 200 paralegals

throughout

Chicago's distinguished legal community. Last year, CDEL provided pro bono legal

services

to 3,487 elderly and disabled Chicagoans.

I doubt it, but I am not sure.

I know that most counties do things a little differently.
