Guest guest
Hi a and June, I haven't posted for a long time, but I continue to read others info. I just wanted to add some information to the Aspartame issue. A few years ago I read that one of the airlines -- can't remember which one -- did not allow their pilots to ingest this sweetener within so many hours of flying. Also, my best friend's Mom -- a nurse -- was hospitalized with seizures. The culprit turned out to be the six pack of diet coke she drank daily. Like anything else, I doubt that an occasional diet coke would harm anyone, but so many diet drink addicts consume a ton of the junk like I once did. (I have shared this info before, but there may be readers who missed it). P.S. My friend Art continues to be RA factor negative 14 months after being given extensive antibiotics during heart bypass surgery. As I am sure you remember, assuming I have the right a, he had severe RA for 10 years. His rheumatologist is clueless and says she has never seen this happen before, but as a good doctor should, has released his records to UCLA to further the knowledge of RA. Hope you are doing well. Guest guest
Hi Patsy. I think about you often too. Thanks for the information on aspartame. I also read the same thing about pilots. There are so many horror stories about aspartame on the internet that I am shocked that it is still used. I've read stories that people have had complete remission of diseases such as RA from quitting aspartame. For me it is one chemical I can do without. I hope UCLA has some answers about Art's remission after antibiotic use. I've read reports lately that some heart diseases are caused by bacterial infections. Some scientists believe that the bacterial infections affect the arteries and weeken the arteries. Cholerserol is formed to PROTECT the weakened arteries, but doctors prescribe colesterol reducing drugs to reduce the cholesterol. It sure would be a miracle if heart disease and rheumatic diseases were as simple as antibiotics. How have you been doing Patsy? I hope you are feeling well. a > > > Date: Sun, 17 Mar 2002 23:16:32 -0800 > > From: Patsy3 <Patsy3@...> > Subject:RE: [ ] Tests > > > > > Hi a and June, > > I haven't posted for a long time, but I continue to read others info. Guest guest
Al, that's wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you, my friend. Hopefully soon they will come up with the answer to why you're losing weight, but just knowing that it's unlikely to be cancer is an enormous relief, I'm sure. We've all been so worried for you. And endo sounds like a good explanation for Randi's problems, as well. It's a miserable diagnosis (I had it) but far better than ovarian cancer. It looks like once again our prayers were answered! You have a great day, and remember we love you. Love and hugs, Carol [ ] Tests Hi everyone, Stacey, I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. Hang in there honey and remember how much you mean to us and how much we love you. Debs, thanks for the long post. I am sorry I haven't had a chance to reply, but it meant a lot to me. I love you. I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday and although there were many biospies done, my gastro doc told he is almost positive I don't have cancer. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, that's great news. They did find that I have a hiatial hernia though where the top of your stomach protrudes through the diaphragm. I don't know if I'll need to have surgery. I should have all the results back by Tuesday and go from there. As all of you know, life is always taken one day at a time. Why I am losing weight is still a mystery but the results may lead us in the right direction. I'm keeping my fingers crossed yet again. Randi is still waiting for some results but she has endrometriosis. We're praying that may be the culprit but won't know for sure until all results are in. Thanks to all for the prayers and well wishes. It means a lot, as do all of you. Have a great day and remember I love you all. Al
Guest guest
Hi Al, that's wonderful news about your tests, and I'll keep praying for you and Randi and your sweet family. I'm glad I was able to get on line this morning & check the posts. It has been a long and tiring 2 weeks, but things are starting to settle down a bit. My daughter is recovering nicely from her surgery and plans to go back to work next week, so I will be able to stay home. I think tomorrow I'll sleep until noon. Keep us posted of everyone's progress, and consider yourself hugged... ((((((((Al)))))))) Judi

Guest guest
Great news Al! Hiatal hernias usually do not require treatment unless you¹re having severe reflux or inflammation of the esophagus. At least you can put the thoughts of the big C away. But I wish they had some clues as to why you are loosing weight. I hope Randi also gets the same great news. Hope your weekend is painfree. a > Hi everyone, > > Stacey, I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. Guest guest
Hi a, Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I am so far behind on reading the posts I wonder if I'll ever catch up. I figure I won't need surgery because I don't have severe reflux or an inflammed esophagus. I should know everything tomorrow. I am so relieved it's not cancer. It was quite tense for a while. We are now focusing our thoughts and prayers for Randi. I'll be sure to let everyone know what her results are when we get them. Although she hasn't posted, she knows that everyone is praying for har and is extremely appreciative, as am I. Thank you. Hope you're having a pain free day! All my love, Al

Guest guest
Tess, I'm glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. I hope this means that you are finally getting over the pneumonia and the viral infection. White blood cells. Pyuria, or the presence of too many leukocytes or white blood cells, is a sign of infection in the upper or lower urinary tract. If two or more leukocytes per each high-power field show up in noncontaminated urine, the sample most likely is abnormal. http://www.medicaldistribution.com/Rep/Rep_2002_May/Rep_52420029284228.htm Rheumatoid arthritis and Anemia: http://www.arthritis.co.za/raanemia.html a > Hi...got letters in the mail from both my rheum and pcp today. Guest guest
What are all these tests that you talk about? The only test I've had since finding out that I had CML last July is the BMB and CBC blood work. Should I have been having other tests that I don't know about? Please enlighten me. My head is spinning from all this and last night I went to CML Hope and realized there was more that should be done that hasn't. I am thinking of changing Oncologists again, seems she's not doing what needs to be done. My white count stays in normal, red count is below normal, I've been given 3 pints of blood already. But the Gleevec since having gastric bypass eats up my potassium, and has caused errosions in my new pouch. There is no way you can take the Gleevec with a meal. One we aren't allowed to drink 30 minutes prior to eating or 30 minutes after eating. We can't drink down an 8 oz glass of water with the pills, we have to sip. Had I known this would be the problem, I would never have had the weightloss surgery that Amy is getting ready to have. Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets having the surgery, but I wish I had known more before I even considered the surgery. But I didn't know and now I am paying for it being sick constantly. Thank you Kathy
Guest guest
Hi again Kathy, I can hear your dispare in your post and I wish I could do something to help you. As for the tests you ask about, you should be having regular CBC's. How often, depends on your counts. Having a slightly low red count is normal with Gleevec. If it gets REALLY low, then you can consider red cell boosters such as Procrit. If your counts are more or less stable, then a CBC every 4-6 weeks is the norm. If you have very low counts or they aren't stable, you could be going as regularly as every week. You should also be getting liver and kidney function tests regularly. Again, if you're stable, these can be done at longer intervals (even up to 3 month intervals). You should also be having PCR's done every 3 months. If you're not in CCR, then you should have a BMB every 3-6 months until you are, then once you are, you can stretch those out to every 12-18 months or even indefinitely, depending on who you speak to. The PCR test is really the critical test you need to be monitored with if you are in CCR. I hope I've answered some of your questions, Take care, Tracey > > What are all these tests that you talk about?
