sensativity to light/headaches with gleevec

Hey guys,

I will be calling my onc today about this but I figured I'd run it by you guys

first. I've been on Gleevec for CML since Oct 2005, am also taking an Iron

suppliment (for several months) and the BCP (for the last month). I've had

these 'headaches' for a while now but they're becoming more prevelant of late.

They start with things just getting especially bright. Like I'm getting a

migrane (used to get migranes before I had my son). Then everything gets

extremely bright and looses it's contrast so it's realy difficult to see. It

seems that it's hapening more frequently lately but it has been hapening for

quite some time. My last blood test was on the 5th of Feb and it was all

normal, next one is on 3/10. Anyone know if this 'headache' is CML related,

Gleevec related or what? There's no actual pain that would normally come with a

headache or migrane..just the ultra sensativity to light. Turning all the

lights off doesn't help as I still get these bright streaks of

light in my vision even if all the lights are off. They seem to be coming once

a week or more now.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jaromin

Hi ,

It sounds like you might be having ocular migraines. I had a

simillar experience a few months ago where I actually went

completely blind in a part of my field of vision in one eye but it

cleared up after 30 mins. How long do your episodes last?

I personally don't think it has anything to do with Gleevec or CML

since many people in the general population have these problems but

it's always good to mention it to your doctor.

When I had my episode, my doctor sent me for a carotid doplar

(ultrasound of the carotid arteries) to make sure the artery wasn't

narrowing or blocked. Everything was fine so they assume it was

just an unusual ocular migraine (which I never had in my life but

there's a first time for everything right?)

Take care,

Tracey

Dear , I don't know what you have but I am currently having a similar

problem. I don't have pain, just a numbness and dizziness, like vertigo. I am

going to the doctor at 1pm today. When I get up in the morning I get sick

because I'm so dizzy. Then I have sensitivity to light and sound. I hope it's

just a flu, but it's been going on for a month. I take strong pain meds also,

which could be a cause. I don't know, but it is not fun. I hope you get

answers from your doctor. I would definitely go in and have a looksee. Hope you

feel better soon! Lynne A.

Thanks ,

I will call them at lunchtime. I've told them about them before but they were

infrequent and not a major issue. Last night it lasted for like a half hour and

I know I'd had another within the last week or so. I'm on 400 mg of gleevec.

Thank you,
