Guest guest
Hi and ***THANK YOU SO MUCH*** for writing back. The info I got about my dad is straight from the DR. I am pretty much the only one who will get in the DRs faces, per say, and see what's going on. My dad is currently inpatient in Sloan Kettering, in NYC. I am in Maine. Tomorrow, I will be leaving for my third trip to NYC in 5 weeks. Being down there is the only way that I can communicate with the DRS as I do not think that they know how to use a phone. This is very frustrating. His Drs, DR Weiss and DR Jursick are only giving him platelet infusions and Rituxin. This is very frustrating to me. He has had many, many doses of the Rituxin and he has not responded at all. Their " plan " is to continue on rituxin. That's it!!!! ??????? Last week, They gave two different types of chemo on the same day. They are not planning on any more chemo. His platelets responded very slightly to the chemo. They went from 5K to 11K. They are now back at 7K. Right after he had the chemo, he had a " slight pneumonia " . He has seemed to snap out of this. His hemoglobin is low (7.5) and he is now requiring transfusions for this. He is sleeping more and more-which is making me think he will go soon. This really scares me-but what can I do other than try to get him well and accept whatever fate that will come??? I will check into into the campath. What other treatments besides campath and rituxin are in order for the low platelet count??? I have read about splenic irradiation. Any thoughts on this??? What about vincristine, vinblastine, danazol, high-dose dexamethasone, cyclosporine, interferon alfa, and plasmapheresis??? Any thoughts on these??? I know I am asking a lot of questions. I just want to make sure my dad can get a fair shot before things with his physical condition take a different step. BTW, he (my dad) was active on the list a while back. (Like a year ago-I think.) Anyway, his name is Wally. His screen name is CwoWally. I do not know if anyone remembers him. But just thought I'd let you know. Again-thank you for any help. God Bless. .
