Hi Carol - what you describe is by itself no reason to be very concerned.

A white count of 16 is not scary. Do you know the rest of his blood counts?

As for the nodes, are they getting larger rapidly?

In this disease you want to look for changes. For example, if white count doubles in a few months, that is cause to think twice. If nodes are growing larger rapidly, that also might make you think.

It would help if you could tell us a little more about the situation.

Thanks

Yes the nodes have been getting larger rapidly and his blood count

can change in a matter of days not months. I don't know what his

other counts are all they ever tell us is the wbc. And when ever

they have don't surgery his platlets are low enough that they have

given him some and blood also. In the last year he has had 6

surgeries 5 knee and back surgery also a case of shingles and has

had to fight staff infection for 6 months So we get worried ever

time something happens. if you could give me some information would

appreciate it . This is all new to us.

Carol - we still don't know very much about your husband, but let me ask you some specific questions:

Are you in good hands? I see you live in Wyoming. Are you at a good cancer center? It is important to be in the hands of a good hematologist!! Local docs are OK, but you need an expert. Perhaps Denver? Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle?

How long ago was he diagnosed, and what has been the history of the disease so far? Any treatment? Is he being treated now? Get his white count, platelet count, lymphocyte percentage, and hemoglobin for us. You are ENTITLED to ask for and have this info. Take charge, Carol.

Has he had a CT scan or any scan? When? What did it show?

From what you have said so far it does sound like he might need some intervention, but we know too little. Also, remember, we're patients with experience, not doctors.

I will ask our medical advisor on Thursday, I'm seeing him. Please try to get us as much info as you can, that way we can be more useful. Answers to the above will help a lot.

Best,

Hello, every one. I have a couple of questions. I have CLL stage 1. In Feb of this year my WBC was 10.3 & lymp was 4.9 at the end of Oct my WBC was 19.0. & lymp was 11.4 . Is this reason for concern? Also I just had some minor surgery 2 weeks ago and I am just not feeling well. I have been extremely tired and light headed and cannot concentrate well at all. Before the surgery I was fighting fatigue but since surgery it has been much worse. Has anyone else felt this way? I seem to think the surgery has brought the CLL on even more. I will be intrested in how some of you have felt after sugrery. Sincelely
