Hi Mike,

Not doing to good lately pain seems to be getting the best of me

all I want to do it sleep. At least I have hope Wednesday is the day for my

trial for the Pain Pump I am so hoping it works I will be in the hospital for 3

days. If I get 50% pain relief it will be worth it, I just want the same relief

I had when I first had my SCS put in before it stop working. Thanks you all for

Kathy,

I will be thinking of you tomorrow. When I had my trial I only spent the night

in the hospital and then wore a fanny pack with the meds still running into me

for 3 weeks. That was about 16 years ago and I know that things have changed

since then. I did have immediate relief and so didn't want them to stop the

trial.

Good Luck!!! Hope the trial works for you. The pain pump and SCSs have given me

great pain relief. Still have pain, but every much more manageable. Remember,

never give up hope.

If you want any info on my experience with the pump, please contact me.

Hi Dorothy,

I actually have to stay in the hospital for 3 days and if it

works I have to go back in 2 to 3 weeks and have the unit installed after I heal

from the trial. I am hoping to have immediate relief just like you or at least

50% of my pain gone. Again thank you for everything you don't know how much at

ease you have made me through all of this.

Hi Sue

When you had your trial did you have to stay in the hospital for 3 days

like I am? When did you have your pain pump put in? And how long was your

recovery after having it put in? Are there any limitation to what you can do?

Also I was reading something about hot tub about how you should not go in them,

well I own one and it would be a real bummer if I cannot use it ever again. Is

this true ? I am sorry for all the question but the web sites out there really

don't answer these kind of questions. Thanks

Kathy,

I am kind of answering your note to me and to Sue all at the same time. I am

glad that I have been able to help even in the smallest bit to get you through

this waiting period.

I had to wait 3 days after the removal of my trial before the doctor would put

in my permanent pump. That was to make sure there was no infection develop from

the trial site.

I would say there is a 4-6 week period for full recovery, for all the swelling

to go down and for me to get use to the feeling of the pump. In the beginning

there were times when I would bend and that hockey puck sized pump felt like a

basketball.

The only limitation I was told about was avoiding any magnetic machines. I do

not go through the regular scanner at the airport but rather opt for the hand

held scanner. You cannot have an MRI unless you can be checked by your doctor

immediately afterwards. Magnets can erase the computer in your pump.

I go in my sons hot tub every chance I get.

Hi KATHY

I ONLY HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT FOR MY TRIAL FOR THE PAIN PUMP. I HAD GREAT RESULTS

FROM THE TRAIL!!!!!! THE PUMP WAS IMPLANTED A FEW WEEKS LATER. tHE IMPLANTATION

WAS A SAME DAY PROCEDURE. AFTER THESURGERY YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL FOR A

WHILE, NO HEAVY LIFTING, NO BENDING, NO STRETCHING. YOU HAVE TO ALLOW TIME TO

HEAL. FROM WHAT I CAN REMEMBER, I THINK I HAD MORE PAIN RECOVERING FROM THE SCS

THAN THE PAIN PUMP, BUT OF COURSE EVERYONE IS DIFFERNT. I DON'T KNOW ANYTHIING

ABOUT HOT TUBS, BUT IT CERTAINLY WOULD BE A BUMMER IF YOU COULDN'T USE IT, BUT I

HAVE A POOL WITH A HEATER THAT I HAVE SET TO ABOUT 90-92 DEGREES AND I USE IT

WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I JUST LOOKED IN MY MEDTRONIC BOOK TO SEE IF THERE WAS

ANYTHING ON HOT TUBS. IT SAID IF THE TEMPERATURE OF THE HOT TUB IS GREATER THAN

39 DEGREES C (102degreesF) YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT. CHECK THE TEMP ON YOURS. THE

BEST ADVISE IS THE ASK YOU DR.. I HOPE YOU GET GOOD RESULTS. IF YOU HAVE ANY

OTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK. .

NEVER GIVE UP HOPE

Dorothy,

Thanks again I was worried I would never be able to go in my hot

tub. One of the sites said that you could not go in hot tub because it would

raise your body temperature and cause the pump to give you to much medicine and

you could overdose, so I needed to hear from someone that really had one to know

for sure. Is there any limit on twisting and lifting like when I had my SCS?
