Trisomy 12 cases frequently have atypical morphology and tend to have brighter CD20 and surface immunoglobulin. 'Discordant' just means that CD38 and ZAP-70 give results in different directions. In our large series such patients had a median prognosis of 15 years, but that was before the advent of FCR.

Thanks for the article. I was tested for Zap 70 at a major Center and found to be neg but positive for CD38 in 36% (actually CD19/CD38, meaning the cells were co-expressing). This is at the beginning of my dx. back in 11/05. I remain at stage 0 with no symptoms at this time, which I am very grateful for. My docs said this is a discordent result, which I translate to mean it is hard to interpret. I think there are some cases like mine that are difficult to figure out. I am trisomy 12 and 13q del. My official dx. is atypical CLL.
