Guest guest
Hi - I am supposed to go out to dinner Saturday with my family for my grandfather's birthday (we didn't go last weekend as planned cause my aunt was ill). Dinner with them is always early because my grandfather doesn't like to drive in the dark. I will call my mother tomorrow and find out what Saturday's plans are (hopefully my aunt is feeling better). I know the class is early in the morning and the drive each way is only a few hours, but I will have to check and see how early everyone is getting together - I don't want to have to rush our trip!! I will let you know tomorrow. I hope that I can fit this in!!! That would be so much fun!!!! Although I will have to figure out what to wear!?!?! I certainly cannot wear what I do in my living room to work out!! LOL!!! And I should probably shop for a better sportsbra!! Does anyone have any working-out-in-public-wear suggestions? I cannot wear any type of tight or tummy-bearing outfit. I usually wear loose shorts and a sportsbra at home, but throw a t-shirt on too when I tae-bo at my parents house. --G " *mary* " <mmgrave-@...> wrote: original article:tae-bo_on/?start=15124 > I haven't gotten much feedback either...I had written you on the other list > and asked if you wanted to go this Saturday..I know you said that was a date > that you were able to go and also I have have money right now to go..LOL Let > me know...even if it just us we would still have a blast and of course I > will take some pictures of us to put on the web site..LOL > > > Re: Boo Hoo and Yippeee??!! > > > > Oh no!! I already have some biking shorts, so I may go with those. I knew those loose shorts would not be up for a public workout. I'd kick and everyone would be able to see my underwear!!!LOL I like wearing them at home since they are so loose, and they weren't that loose several months ago. Reminds me during my workout about how far I have come already, and how far I want to go. --G
Guest guest
Diane! OH MY GOSH! Sending PRAYERS your way! I hope Kody doesn;t get it! I just don't understand some people... Pattie !!!! Just when you think that things are going good for your pumpkin, something happens! Kody has been directly exposed to bacterial meningitis!! I have to take him today to get a rocephin shot and hopefully that will keep him from getting sick. I am so mad! Why on earth would someone send their child to school that sick?? Thank God we got a warning letter from our county health department! Guest guest
Diane, Doesn't that just make your blood boil??!! FYI..don't know if Kody has had Rocephin shots before, but they hurt like %^ & *((! Our ped mixes lidocaine in with the rocephin & it burns at first but I think that it does help with the soreness, etc. Rocephin itself, is fairly thick, goes in slow & burns really bad. In other words...you better be prepared to go " treat shooping " afterward! Hugs to Kody & I hope that the shot does the trick & he doesn't get sick. now has strep throat & is back on antibiotics AGAIN, after a whopping 11 DAY honetmoon Just curious... was Kody exposed directly to the child who has the meningitis(like in his classroom) or was it a more broad exposure(like in his grade or school)? I'm glad your ped is jumping on this...better safe than sorry. Take care & let us know how things go! Guest guest
Diane, I am SOOO sorry he is so sore! When my boys get Rocephin, they get it through their IV.. so we've never had to get a shot like that! I am SOOO sorry that it hurt so much for him. Give him a big hug from us (without squeezing his owie!) Peace Be With You! pattie Re: !!!! Yeah, I was pretty pissed off!!! As if Kody doesn't get enough pokes, thank you very much! What really makes my blood boil, is that the parents of the kids he is in contact with knows all about Kody, so therefore they have no excuse in not knowing they were putting Kody at risk when they sent their kid to school sick. Granted they didn't know it was meningitis, but clearly the child was way too sick to be in school at all! Our ped. also mixes the rocephin with lidocane. But it still hurt like h-e-double hockey sticks!! We did go shopping afterwards and he picked out a transformer car and a spiderman plate (they didn't have Batman!) to eat his lunch of choice on. He is still limping. He did come in direct contact with this child. The child isn't in his classroom, but Kody goes to kindergarten in the morning, then to an onsight childcare for lunch, and then to a kindergarten enrichment class in the afternoon. The child in question also goes to the onsight childcare at the same time as Kody. They eat lunch together every day. I am glad too that my ped is playing it better safe than sorry. Although he was absolutely furious at the other parents too. I am sorry that is sick again. Poor kid. It gets so frustrating, doesn't it? I think that is what made me the maddest over this meningitis thing. Kody is doing so very well right now and the thought of him becoming sick over something that should have and could have been prevented is darn right insane. In other words...you better be prepared to go " treat shooping " > afterward! Hi! I agree with the " Treat Shopping " . After that " stress " you and the child deserve a special treat. The Drs. & nurses often forget that you have to go through the ordeal together. Blake had to have the Rocephin IM done while in the hospital when his lung collasped. His Port had an infection in it as well as his blood stream. Well the nurse informed us that his port had actually stopped working all together. They tried to no avail to get an IV placed else where. They wound up calling the Staff Ped on call instead of the ped for the practice. This Dr. is know for being lazy and not wanting to come and access the situation. He ordered the meds. to be given IM. Not one Med but actually 3 of them. Rocephin, Gentamycin, and Tobramycin. Plus he was getting IV Benadryl because he is allergic to the Rocephin & Tobramycin. The Nurses(it took 5 of them to get this done) informed me that Blake would need me to be the rescuer so I was to leave the room and they would come and get me when they were done. They had to do this at 12am then again 8am. Needless to say, I had one sore awnery little man on my hands. They decided to remove the port later that day. Well the Staff Dr. came to our room and asidthat they need to give Blake another round of the antibiotics and had heard that I told the Nurses that if it had to be IM then it would not be done to Blake. That I had the right to refuse the treatment if I felt it was not in Blake's best interest. This Dr. came and told me they HAD to do it IM. Well I got intouch with Blake's Ped. in his office. He agreed with me. He also said that they were late in giving this round anyway. Why could they not just wait until they got Blake under the anesthesia, remove the port, put in a working IV and then give the meds. I can tell you that the Staff Drs. do not like it when you get the Attending Drs. involved. I signed an order to do it this way and it was followed. I can not see a child going through that agony for someone to say " well, we got it in him " . I can tell you, I had to leave the floor. I could hear that child screaming all the way down to the other end of the Pediatrics floor. When all was said and done, Blake had quite a few prizes under his belt. He was a very brave boy through that. Well I need to go. BLake is still having problems with his breathing. He is using only 37% of his lung functions. He goes to the Pulmo. on Fri. after his IVIG treatment. She is suppose to tell us to put Blake in the hospital and do O2 therapy or if we should just be prepared to do it at home. We talked about this last week. The Dr. says she will make up her mind this Fri.(he's been going to her office 2 times a week for PFT's and they put him on the O2 for about an hr., do a treatment, repeat PFT's then go home.) Hope everyone else starts to feeling better really soon. (mom to Blake)
Guest guest
The Rocephin shots are the worst. had to do a shot every day for three days. He could not walk for an hour after the shots. Fortunately the doctor's office is across the street from a tall building with an elevator that you can see out of going up and down. After the shot I would get him a Sprite (his idea of a treat) and we would ride the elevator up and down for as long as he wanted.

Guest guest
Thanks, Patti, I will give him a hug for you! This was his first shot of rocephin as he usually gets it by IV too. He is feeling better now, I have been giving him some motrin to help with the pain and stiffness. Needless to say, I didn't take him back to school afterwards! He is staying home with Mommy today!! Guest guest
We had our first two kids in daycare for several years. Most of the parents there would drug up their kids with tylenol and motrin so that the fever would not show up until the afternoon and the parent could work for a few more hours. I think that most of the parents were completely obvious to how easily germs are passed around! Or, they just didn't care! I even heard parents brag about how they slipped their kid into daycare sick or slipped their kid into daycare before they had been on antibiotics 24 hours. I'm so sorry that an imbecilic parent has exposed your Kody. Pam wife to (15 years) mother to , 8, Hannah, 5, Rebekah 2, and Leah (5-11-2001) Re: !!!! Guest guest
I've wondered about this, but hesitated to ask. Do kids with PID go to school usually? It's like a game to see how much they can get away with, sending a sick kid and being proud of their cleverness. I just heard of an incident last night! My SIL, who is a day care worker, has a 3yr old with a nasty cold, fever and double ear infection. Ped said she could go back to day care today if she was without a fever for 24 hours. Well, she had a fever last night, but my MIL told me that my SIL was just going to give Motrin and take her anyway! I know many people would never do this, myself and included. But the people that do wreck it for everybody else and spread goodness-knows-what. The first day went to day care (1 day a week), there were two babies sitting there with tons of goop running out of their noses, as they sat there and teethed on the community toys. I was too polite or naive (and couldn't miss work) and left her anyway. Came away with 's first cold ever. After two more weeks, ear infection. Out sick for the next two times, then after the next she had pneumococcal meningitis. Never went back. This was a normal, good day care too! Went five times and ended up with meningitis (from unresolved ear infection most likely). NOT the day care's fault I'm sure, but scared us away for good. It's a tough situation, because parents get pressure from work not to miss too much. The biggest blessing to come from 's PID was it " made " me quit my job, which I never wanted to go back to anyway. My husband didn't think we could survive without my income, but we've received " riches " beyond all measure and now he's completely on the team as far as that's concerned. Wow, ranting and raving here, huh. (mom to , 3yrs old, polysaccharide antibody def)

Guest guest
Pam, Coming from a daycare parent, I would never do what you're describing. I do know parents who do that, though. Our daycare is especially astute as to the child's needs & usually catches these & sends them right back out with the child. It's a shame that some parents don't realize the damage they're causing with just those brief moments of exposure. I try to gently remind them that it was a simple cold that landed in the hospital last year when he stopped breathing! pattie Re: !!!! Pam, I completely agree with your post.

Guest guest
Macey started modified school days in Pre-K, was scheduled to go every day in Kindergarten (ended up missing many) and even at one point had to go to an every other day schedule due to fatigue. 1st grade has gone better but she's been out alot (more GI related than PID). We have an IEP with the school system that covers her absences and a notification policy about contagious diseases at the school (not just in her classroom or grade). Since , our 3rd grader, is also there she is as prone to bring home something so they just call us when ANYONE shows up with something catchy. Guest guest
We homeschool, too. And, Rebekah was the first of our children to not go to daycare. I think God knew that she couldn't handle the germs. I was just wondering if it would be possible for her to go to school. She has struggled to stay well and is in a very protected environment. I'm on pins-and-needles. Supposedly, our doctor is going to call this weekend with news or a diagnosis. Pam wife to (15 years) mother to , 8, Hannah, 5, Rebekah 2, and Leah (5-11-2001) Re: !!!! Guest guest
12 weeks straight of sickness qualifies you for sainthood! I read it in the " mother's manual " . Rebekah's low grade temps have returned. She has been between 99.5 and 100.5 for the last three days. This is the original reason we so concerned about her. I don't know what the fevers mean, but, given how sick with respiratory stuff everyone in town is, I'm not taking her in unless her fever spikes. Pam wife to (15 years) mother to , 8, Hannah, 5, Rebekah 2, and Leah (5-11-2001) Re: !!!! Please keep us posted on the news!!!! Or a diagnosis. Thinking of you. It is always stressful waiting for the doctor to call. We've had a relaxing day here... 's temp is up to 100 now. UGH.. We palyed games, builtr forts, read books, did arts and crafts, and watched Star Wars a million times. LOL is out of town and I am about to go STIR CRAZY. I got out with last night and brought him to the book store to use the gift card he got for his B-day. We are now in week 12 of illness for his brothers adn I am going INSANE. I can;t wait until spring-- I pray it brings a week or two of health. Int he last 3 years we have not had much health at all-- our record has been 3 weeks ONCE... mostly we go one week and then the sickness starts up again... sometimes its just days. Sorry for complaining. I'm just suffering from Cabin fever! Pattie Re: !!!! Guest guest
We thought a low grade temp was normal for Rebekah until a few days after her first IVIG. She was TEMP FREE. I don't think that I 've ever felt her when she didn't feel a bit warm. Pam wife to (15 years) mother to , 8, Hannah, 5, Rebekah 2, and Leah (5-11-2001) Re: !!!! Amen- we don;t want to go anywhere near the hospital or doctor unless his temp or ph's temp spikes. I had them wear masks when we went on Wednesday-- in the ER Sun night they had ph wear a mask when he'd leave the isolation room ( to go get x-rays, etc) never gets these low-grade temps-- just the two other guys. It has to be part of their illness. Drives me nuts... SOmetimes I wonder if it is just normal for them to get these temps... does that make sense?
