Moderator] This broadcast will include discussions about the impact of stigma on health and HIV prevention efforts and how public health programs may send mixed messages that contribute to stigma. Presentations and interviews will provide an update on public health resources and innovative strategies to reduce or eliminate stigmatizing attitudes. Viewers may fax in questions and comments before and during the broadcast. Please distribute this fact sheet as soon as possible to colleagues and network partners. Encourage them to begin setting up viewing sites and promoting attendance now. Objectives At the completion of the broadcast, participants will be able to: - Describe the impact of stigma on health and HIV prevention efforts. - Identify innovative strategies used by HIV prevention programs and other health-related services to reduce or eliminate stigmatizing attitudes. - Discuss how public health programs may send mixed messages that contribute to stigma. Target Audience This broadcast is designed for organizations and individuals working in HIV prevention. This audience includes health departments, HIV Prevention Community Planning Groups, national and regional minority organizations, community-based organizations, and health care providers. Beginning February 9, a list of registered viewing sites open to guests will be updated daily on the Broadcast Web Site. After February 9, viewers are strongly encouraged to periodically check the web site to determine if more viewing sites have registered in their area. Viewers without Internet access may call the National Prevention Information Network at 800-458-5231. Persons in search of a viewing site are encouraged to contact a registered viewing site between February 9 and April 12 to request seating. Setting up a Viewing Site Organizations are asked to set up their own viewing sites as soon as possible. To do this, identify and reserve a viewing site with a steerable antenna that receives either C- or Ku_band satellites. Examples of such sites include schools, hospitals, community colleges, universities, county extension offices, and local chapters of the American Red Cross. Live calls will not be taken during this broadcast. Locating a fax machine near the viewing room will allow viewers to fax in questions. To register a viewing site after February 9, please visit the Broadcast Web Site or Fax Information System (Document Number 130037) or call 800-458-5231. To receive site materials or be listed as a viewing site online, please register your site as soon as possible after February 9. Encouraging Attendance After reserving a viewing site, organizations are encouraged to invite colleagues from other local organizations to view this broadcast (see " Target Audience " ). An Important Message to All Viewing Locations To ensure satellite reception, we strongly encourage: - training or hiring a technician to operate the satellite equipment, and - having that person participate in the satellite signal tests the day before the broadcast and the day of the broadcast. - Participation in both signal tests is especially important if your site experienced a technical problem with a previous satellite broadcast.
