Guest guest Posted August 18, 2010 Report Share Posted August 18, 2010 Not sure if this is relevant to the discussion, but I have been prescribed a form of Vitamin D called Rocaltrol or calcitrol, 0.25 mcg, taken once a day. I have been in kidney failure since last summer and this spring my serum calcium levels went far below normal, which indicated that my kidneys were not able to metabolize the Vitamin D and calcium supplements I was taking. The Vitamin D I was getting was not in a form that could be used by the body. Once I started taking the Rocaltrol, the serum calcium level rose to within the normal range and the muscle cramps stopped. Sybil Whitman, 54 Dx. Oct. 2003 (unclassified NHL resembling SLL), CHOP x 8, R-CVP x 6, auto SCT April 2006, allo BMT (unrelated donor) Dec. 2006, CR for 18 months, relapse Oct. 2008, Velcade + Revlimid + decadron since Jan. 2009, kidney failure since July 2009.
