EVERY single time I went on antibiotics I lost weight without dieting. Especially happened in 1997 and current on IV antibiotics. The IV abx in 1997 was prophylactically for gall bladder removal. My husband has continued to ask me why I would gain weight when I don't eat much. Kiana Rossi mailto:bornfree@... Guest guest
Missed a lot of this thread, but if you're taking a poll, I've lost 32 pounds since I encountered The Tick. Only nice thing that's happened to me in a year! (I was pretty overweight). >From: EJFisch@... > >Holly my weight has gone up 38 pounds. I haven't gotten better, so the weight >is still with me. Guest guest
Pat and all, I said I've lost weight but must add I at FIRST had unexplained weight gain of about 20 pounds. Then I went on low carb diet and lost some but not back to weight I felt comfortable and went super low carb, still not able to get back to what I considered normal for me; but shortly thereafter took really sick and then had this unexplained big weight loss. I'm wondering if I forced toxins out of fat by extreme adherence to diet and put the toxins into my blood and organs because then I was in the hospital getting a cyst removed off on ovary that there was very early stage cancer in. It wasn't in ovary but was in cyst on ovary. They took ovary anyway. However I still can't put weight back on. So to correct, I first had unexplained weight gain, then health worsened and I have unexplained (by diet) weight loss and worsening of health. --- In , Patilla DaHun <glypella@p...> wrote: > I also gained about 30 lbs. after mold exposure. Guest guest
Barb, have you had tests lately (CT scans, bloodwork, etc.) to determine what is causing the weight loss? I wound up in major surgery for some kind of rare condition (something panniculitis - a benign tumor) this year. I'm wondering if it was mold related. The only time I lost weight was when I started a walking regimen. Guest guest
I just wanted to congratulate both Giora and Lynn on the amazing progress they've made in losing weight. It's not easy but it is worth it. I gained about 40lbs after my diagnosis and although I'd like to blame Gleevec, the truth is that it was all the crap I started to eat that caused me to gain weight. I took on an attitude of " well I'm dying anyway, why deprive myself of goodies " . At some point I realized that I wasn't infact dying that fast and that there was a good posibility that I could go on to live for a while longer so it was time to do something. I didn't want everyone to remember me as being fat and I was tired of making clothes to wear since I was outgrowing even my fat clothes. Lucky for me, I know how to sew so I made clothes for cheep rather than buying them but I got fed up of elastic waist bands and stretchy material and I wanted to look good again. So I finally joined Weight Watchers in the summer of 2004 and made the commitment to do something. I lost the weight and although I bounce around with 5 pounds now, I look good and feel better. One of the biggest treats after I lost the weight was going shopping for " real " clothes. No more elastic waist bands I wish everyone the best of luck. It really does make a difference to your outlook when you look good. Tracey
Guest guest
Carol, I'm not a large person to begin with. I am only 5ft tall on a good day in the right shoes (which I can't wear anymore d/t RA! <G>.) SO while I gained weight it was not in the same amounts as everyone else...but for my size it was a large gain. I went from a size 4 to a 12...and in jeans even a 12 wouldn't zip..so I wore dresses that would flow in the breeze and hide the extra weight which was all around my middle. At my worst I weighed close to 135...after starting at 100. 35 lbs on a 5' body is a lot!! Now to people who are normally 135-145...they look at me like whats your problem with that little bit of weight....but for my bodoy size...this was a large amount...my rheummy was writig that I was obese in my chart! HE sent me for knee xrays when I complaied of knee pain...and wrote obese on the xray form! I have been a size 2-4 all my life! I am a small person with small bones...and here he was calling me obese!! I felt like I weighed 250 pounds. Everyone told me...your'ew putting on a little weight? Like they thought I hadn't noticed and needed to be told? IT got so that I didn't want to go anywhere. Besides the fact that I was sick and hurting, now I'm obese...and taking predisone every day how am I gong to get rid of it?? It wsn't easy but I am down to 120# as of yesterday...my PCP laughed and aid it was because I got my hair cut...it was down to my waist..and I cut it all off and dontated it to the people whio make wigs for kids with cancer! That made me feel relly good. and I knew that my PCP was only kidding..he is my biggest supported! THey say the last 45 lbs are the hardest to lose...and thats what I had to lose....I stopped eating a lot of the junk foods that I normally ate, with the prednisone they were just packing the pounds on. I did the intsant breakfast thing for breakfast and lunch and then had a sandwich for dinner. My emergency sweet is a ice mik samdwich..and I can only have one...I should be drinking more water beause then I would be farther along. I bought one of those big balls for exercise and since my pain hasnt really let me exercise yet...I do use the ball for stretching...and it does help my back feel better when I'm done. I still have 20 lbs to go......but I am feeling so much better about myelf. I know that the last 20 are going to come off too! I am moving in a month to NC and will be watching my grandchildren 3 afternoons a week...and chasing a 3 year od should count as exercise!! The thing is .....weight is weight....whether you have to lose 100lbs or 40 lbs....you do it the same way. Moderation in what you eat..Prednidone makes you the cookie monster we all know that! you have to figure out way to overcome the monster!...figure out a plan that is good for you, safe for you check with your primary DR before starting any exercise! And take it wasy..you didn't gain it in a day or a week, your wo'nt looose iti a day or a week. it take time.and small wins! All those little 5 lb wins add up and pretty soon you have a 30 lb win...and you are on your wany baby!!! It'a like Kathe says with the meds...you have to find the right combination that works for you...a little modertion, a little dietary changing here and there, add a little exercise tht you can do without hurthing yourself...and you are on the right track!..its not a short track...but if you are cossistant..you can win your goal if itis reasonable in the first place. You're not going to lose 75 lbs in 2 months before your class renunion..the pressusere is to high and you are setting yourself up for failure...start with a goal of 1/3, ok 25 lbs is much more mangeable to lose...and it will show..and the next 25 will show eve n more! You have to hang in there and keep to the program! dont get discouraged..and dont let those who have no clue as towhat you are deaong with get to yo ad npul your strings! Tke control!hope this helos! jenna When you lose a loved one, you gain an angel whos' name you know ! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to me. I appreciate hearing your story. I agree with you - I keep chipping away at this weight and exercise. We have to do it. Even though there is pain daily - in the long run, the result is positive. I like the last sentence you wrote...... makes me smile. Carol xxoo On Oct 4, 2006, at 8:04 AM, G McCarrick wrote: > When you lose a loved one, you gain an angel whos' name you know ! Guest guest
I feel for anyone out there who has weight they need to lose. While I am not overweight, I know how hard it was for me to lose the weight that I gained after my second child was born. I personally find that exercise is what gets me through my day. I also do not sit around that much because when I do I stiffen right up. I bought a recumbent stationary bike to use for exercise as I can no longer do aerobics or walk for that matter. I use it 6 times a week for 45 minutes & customize the program for a resistance that I can handle. When my arms aren't flaring up I do strength training 3 times per week & I stretch all of the time. I know it sounds like a lot but to me it is one of the things that I can do to help me manage this arthritis cheaply & effectively! LOL! Most importantly, you have to learn to control what you eat. It isn't as hard as you might think (I know because I do this everyday for myself). You have to educate yourself about the amount of calories you need to eat in order to maintain an ideal weight for your size frame. You can try this site to find this information out: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/ Try cutting out liquid calories. By this I mean ditch the soda and drink water. Personally, I have a rule that I must drink my 64oz of water per day before I can have my iced tea. If a person is drinking 5 cans of soda per day, and they completely cut that out, they will have not consumed an extra 600 calories for that day. You do this for one week, you lose a pound by not having to lift a finger. You have to burn 3500 calories, or create a deficit of that amount of calories in order to lose a pound. I brew my own homemade tea which is about 40 calories per glass. HTH, Lori
Guest guest
> > Hi all, I know there's been a lot of talk lately about unwanted weight gain but I am wondering if anyone has insight as to why some people gain on this programme and others lose, at least for a while. I was previously on Body Ecology and lost quite a lot of weight on it the first time - cellulite disappeared quickly and I had so much energy. The second time, before doing Bee's programme, it didn't work the same way, though I still lost weight. Just wondering if there are any patterns among those who lose with Bee's programme and those who gain. > +++Hi Priya, Weight issues, both gaining and losing, have been discussed many times on this group, so first do a Search of our messages.
