Guest guest
Hi Marsha, I also had trouble with Fosamax, Actonel and whatever the drug you spray in your nose is called. My bone density test showed I was getting much worse so I had Zumetta, which my doctor said is Reclast, last month. To my surprise I had no side effects. My WBC is very high so I don't worry about it getting lower. I have recommended it to my friends because it was so easy and now I don't have to take anything for a year. I recently had a bone density done and my score was worse than it was three years ago when I had the first one, even though I have been taking Evista the whole time. I can't take fosamax, boniva, or actonel because I have gastroesophageal reflux. My OB-GYN doctor wants me to start on the yearly infusion of Reclast. The side effects list is a mile long and some of them are decreased WBC, neutrophils, hemoglobin, and platelets. That concerns me with the CLL because my neutrophils and platelets have been low since I had two treatments of FCR in the spring and a low hemoglobin is what led me to begin treatment in the first place. Has anyone taken Reclast? Have you had any problems with it? Thanks for any information you can give me about this issue.Marsha Glose
Guest guest
It is important to remember that while Reclast is associated with all of those toxicities that might overlap with CLL, having CLL does not necessarily predisposes you to them. Reclast is extremely well tolerated and the only side effect that really should have any impact upon clinical decision making is the risk of kidney damage, which is low if infused slowly. Osteoporosis is a real problem and should be treated aggressively. There are many other aspects beyond just looking at bone resorption, including vitamin D levels, etc. It would be worth seeing an expert (although your Gyn might be one).
