- It was one of your countrymen, Somebody's? Razor, who said centuries ago that the simplest solution is probably the right one.

My first guess would be the flu bug.

The fact that it always occurs at 5am, after you have been in bed, horizontal, for a while, would make me suspicious of trapped gas.

Only after these two would I suspect something sinister, and your coming CT would show that.

I should have mentioned that I feel better

from the stomach bug of a week ago, I feel that I am over that. It’s

now these stomach pains that are getting to me. I am going to try

sleeping in a more upright position tonight to see if that makes any

difference.

Can trapped gas cause the excruciating

pains that go on for an hour?

,

I have no suggestions as to the cause of

you abdominal pain, but I have found that a warm bath will give relief. I had a

pseudo colonic obstruction last December following colonoscopy and the baths

relieved some of the pain associated with that.

Hope you get over it soon!

,

I wish I had some explanation or suggestion for you.

I do know, from experience, that cramping can be excruciating

and can last a long time. Your idea of sleeping in a more upright position is

a good thing to try, considering the possibility of gastric reflux.

Good luck,

Karni

Hi - I'm sorry to hear about your pains. A question: did you

take any antibiotics? Those can cause both diarrhea and jolting

stomach pains - in which case I might recommend probiotics. I'm no

doctor (though very familiar with stomach pain and antibiotics) but

the fa ct that it happens at the same time everyday says to me that it

might be related to your digestion. Perhaps if you sleep on your side

you might get relief, and think about what you eat before you go to sleep?

Hope you feel better!

No I have not taken any antibiotics for this

condition. Sleeping on my side causes pain on my spleen and liver as they

are enlarged, so my back is the only place for me to sleep.

I have been watching what I eat and trying

to limit anything that I might have after 9.00pm as a snack.

The use of probiotics is interesting and

worth considering, I do always use them whilst on antibiotics.

, Did they give you antibotics with your flu? I was in the hospital for 3 days, getting mega doses of antibotics. On the 6th day after getting out of the hospital, I had horrible pains in my colon. I had ct scan and a colonscopy that didn't show anything. I honestly think it was from all the antibotics they gave me in the hospital. The reason I was in the hospital was a horrible sore came up after my chemo. The onc thought it was mersa. (I think that is correct) The sore turned out to be from the treatment and steroids cleared it up, almost over night. I hope this has helped.

- Any chance it could be an ulcer - the time of day might suggest that the gastric juices has run out of food in your stomach and going for the lining. I've never had an ulcer, nor CLL (I'm on here for a relative), but thought I'd throw it out there...
