Guest guest
Hi all, The Canadian Consensus Guidelines for the treatment of CML states that a 0.5 log increase in RQ-PCR test results indicates disease progression and needs immediate attention. The first thing they suggest to do is to have the test repeated to make sure it is valid. I was under the impression that it took a 1 log increase before you took action. Maybe it is because we are more conservative in Canada (pun intended). This was presented at the Montreal conference last Saturday. I have been unable to obtain a copy of the guidelines. Guest guest
I don't understand this at all Zavie. Dr. Druker has said that PCR's typically have a variability of 5 fold. Math isn't my strong subject but isn't a 5 fold change the same as a 0.5 log change? I find this disturbing since I've recently had a 0.4 log increase. Guest guest
Hi Zavie Your heading said .5 log reduction and the body of your message indicated a .5 log increase. Guest guest
Hello Zavie and everyone, The Canadian guidelines have not been published, ergo no patients have been given a copy yet. It will be made available after it is published. As we discussed in October, if copies were distributed before publication that would have a negative impact on any " peer reviewed " journal wanting to publish the guidelines. So, we all shall wait patiently. It was my understanding and it was again reiterated on Sunday with Suzanne Kamel-Reid that a o.5 log increase is a " flag " that something might be going on and retesting is the first step to determine the next steps. Hope this helps, Cheers and peace, Cheryl-Anne > > Hi all, > > The Canadian Consensus Guidelines for the treatment of CML states that a > 0.5 log increase in RQ-PCR test results indicates disease progression > and needs immediate attention.
