I'm starting allopurinol 3 days before the beginning of treatment. During treatment I will get benadryl and tylenol. They also use an anti-viral. They don't like to use steroids, partly because of the effects they have on mood and ability to sleep. I'll be taking an antibiotic for 6 months to a year.
