Great report card Joan!!

In case you are not familiar with all the terms.....this is what people call

PCRU ( PCR Undetectable)

Congrats,

am very happy. I hope this is right.

Hi all,

I got my results today from my last pcr test last week. I am up from a

very low level in September to 6.98. I am upset to say to least. My

oncologist is sending me to Mayo here in ville. He made mention

going to Moffitt, but then said Mayo was his choice. Of course I can go

where I want, but I want to make the right decision. I have been on 400

mg since dx'd in 7/03. He upped me to 800mg today. I think I am going

to split it taking half in the am and pm. Any feedback from anyone on

800mg.

Thanks,

Joan Porter

Hi Joan,

yes, definitely split the dose........

I was taking 400mg at lunch (single pill) and 400mg at dinner.......I have

just switched

to a BMS trial. Some people notice the side effects much more when doubling

the dose,

but others do not. All the same rules apply.......just twice a day, which

is a bit of a

nuisance.

With the increase in your PCR, which could be an error and should be

retested soon..

maybe in a month or so...........I would also ask about getting mutation

testing. If you

have developed a mutation, it helps to know which one....because it can make a

difference for treatment. Some mutations do fine with just a dose increase,

and others

do not.......better to know than just experiment.

There are many new options out there now also....but good to get under the

care of

a cml specialist.

Upping the dose worked for me. I'm alittle bigger person and the

400mg just wasen't getting me into compleat remission... like you it

would go up and down. When it was increased to 600mg I immediatly

hit remission.

I hope for the best for you and yeah... splitting the dose works. I

am horrably forgettful so I don't personaly but I've been told I

could if I wanted to.

*hugs*

Zavie:

I have a question for you. I am still pretty new to this CML business,

having only be Dx'd 1 March 07. A response you left a day or so ago stating

once

in remission you will not come out. Is this so? Wow!! I did not know

this. Of course, I realize this means staying on my meds. Just curious on

this

one.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi

That’s what the clinical trials have shown. Once you achieve a 3 log

reduction, or better, there is little or no chance that you will relapse. So

far this has been holding up. There is now 7 years of data to confirm this.

We still need to take the Gleevec daily.

Thanks Zavie!! Wow, that really gives me something to look forward to. I

can now honestly say after being a CML patient for 6 months now, CML is now

just a part of me and not what I am about. I was worried I would never get

there, but am good with my life and would not trade it for anything! Just 3-4

months ago, I did not want to be me. It still is hard for me to believe this

is me reality. I guess that is a good thing, I am not all that bothered

with it, now!

Hi Chris:

It makes me so happy to hear you say this - huge progress! My husband, ,

is pretty much at the same point...he was diagnosed over a year ago, but we

had a shaky road, and after developing liver intolerance with Gleevec, is

now coming up on month 3 of Sprycel....took almost 2 months to churn through

all the side affects, but the last 4 weeks or so have evened out. I think,

if I remember right, you and I shared some emails about no longer being able

to drink beer and be the life of the party..? Was that you? Is so, so glad

to hear of your progress..., too, has embraced the fact that bed time is

no later than 10Pm these days, and a beer here and there is so much more

savored now!

Thanks for sharing,

Cervera (wife of Cervera)
