Your proposal

Hi Debbie - I manage SLL-CLL-edu

Your proposal is wonderful, but perhaps needs a little clarification and

discussion.

Speaking only for my group, we are a medical education group whose principal

mission is to provide information of general usefulness to the CLL community.

We have not been involved with fundraising in any way.

Which is not to say that this is a bad idea. But, several caveats:

First, I would like to bounce it off my membership and see if I get favorable

or other comments. (The membership is copied on this e-mail.)

Second, I would want to see your posts soliciting contributions first, prior

to your posting. I think that's only fair.

Third, I'm not sure I understand the meaning of: " ........websites, and

maintain a permanent link between them. I would, of course, maintain current

information about each of your web sites as well " . Sounds ominous.......

Finally, you may be aware that we are trying to organize a " real " CLL Group,

with a live (names, addresses, not only Internet) membership. This is now in

the final stages, and will either succeed or fail by mid-November. If such a

group were to exist, your proposal would fit right in. Raising funds may be one

of the functions of such a group, although on a quite small scale.

Best, Balan

I support your course of action 100%. Your analysis is right on target.

Hi Debbie - I have taken your proposal very seriously, and solicited advice

on how to proceed.

The bottom line is that we need to be very careful of anything that tastes of

money collection, particularly as applies to this kind of activity in the

nonprofit environment.

Consequently:

I cannot have our group linked to your site (anyway, we do not have a web

site)

I cannot recommend to people that they buy the products you describe

I can make no statement to people telling them that all the money they give

to you is a " contribution " , as I do not know whether or not this is the case.

By the same token, I do not know what you will do with the money you collect

and how you will distribute it. (A word of advice: you need to be fully covered

with the tax authorities before you begin to engage in this activity. I do not

know what you did during the previous effort you described in your proposal,

but I hope you did it correctly.....I am not a tax authority, but it seems to

me that you should get some professional advice.......)

What we can do, since we are all in favor of helping research and the various

501C3 tax exempt, lymphoma/leukemia supporting, agencies, is:

Once your web site is running, we can make an announcement to our people that

if they are interested in this sort of thing they can visit your site and

make their own choice about how they wish to handle a transaction with you.

Best regards,

Balan
