Guest guest
Don - thank you for a very interesting post. As you have read, we are all very interested in CAL-101. I, personally, was not aware of the adverse effects on the liver, I guess I had not studied the issue enough. I think that for this group it would be very important to know about the progress, and side effects, you are having with CAL-101. Please keep us posted. My latest blood test shows elevated liver enzymes (AST is 62 and ALT is 151). At this point, I am continuing to take CAL-101 (300mg once per day) and will have weekly liver function tests. This will continue until the ALT reaches 300. At that point, I would suspend taking CAL-101 until the liver enzyme counts return to normal levels. Then I can try again at a lower dosage. I know that this has happened to a number of patients on the CAL-101 trial, and that most are able to continue with a lower dosage. I hope I can.I am 17p- and anemic due to packed bone marrow. I have been getting red blood cell transfusions (2 units) every 2 to 3 weeks since October. I have a serum ferritin level of around 1300. Does anyone have an opinion if that level of iron overload could contribute to the elevated liver enzymes? My doctor says I don't need chelation until the serum ferritin level reaches 2000.I believe CAL-101 has helped me. My lymph nodes are greatly reduced in size, my platelet count has been going up, and I'm feeling much better than I did before I started the trial. Thanks,Don Keller
