Guest guest
As much as I hate to admit it, having a child with both DS and Autism, I just don't think it's possible to conduct a fair study on a group of DS children and include one who also has an Autism dx. The whole ballpark just changes. It's not really fair to the other kids. Now if they'd do some studies on kids with the dual dx that, in my opinion, would be pretty cool. I always felt badly that jamie couldn't really participate in some of these DS studies but I do understand why not. Sherry
Guest guest
What a bizarre story! The study was terminated and all results are to be thrown out because one child was withdrawn from the study? That doesn't sound right. Does anyone know anything about the B9 they were testing? Are there other studies? It sounds like the people interviewed had good results. ette -------------- Original message from "Kathy Ratkiewicz" <Kathy_R@...>: -------------- Interesting story : SOUTHERN Cross University has shut down a study into Down’s syndrome because a child had been traumatised after suffering an ‘adverse reaction’ during the research. The study, by PhD student and Sydney-based scientist Harvey, was designed to examine the impact of folate supplements on the DNA of children with Down’s syndrome. It follows US research suggesting the substance could rebuild some of the damaged chromosomes behind the syndrome. http://www.northernstar.com.au/localnews/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3682862
Guest guest
After reading this I figured the adverse reaction would have been biochemical, but they shut down the study because the little girl with DS/ASD didn't like to be touched and found the blood draws traumitic.... geesh. Even you do like to be touched, blood draws are not much fun, but hardly worth shutting down the entire study. It doesn't make sense at all and honestly it smells like something is rotten in Denmark. What that is, I have no idea. They can't even publish or review the study while it's shut down. Not sure if they get it up and running again. Would sure be curious to know exactly what supplements they used. Carol in IL Mom to seven including , 6 with TOF, AVcanal, GERD, LS, Asthma, subglottal stenosis, and DS.My problem is not how I look. It's how you see me.
