Guest guest
From Dwyer with thanks (and permission).Feline distemper (Panleukopenia) can NOT be contracted by humans, but humans can spread it to other animals. There is also a 'killed virus' version of the vaccine. seehttp://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/And further clarification from him.If a cat has feline distemper then humans can transfer it from one animal to another. If one cat has a live vaccine and is contagious, then yes itcould be transmitted to another cat, or all members of the family Felidae as are representatives of the related families Procyonidae(coatimundis and raccoons),Viverridae and Mustelidae (minks, ferrets). It can also sometime occur in dogs.It is transmitted by fleas and through feces. There are other references here:http://www.felipedia.org/~felipedi/wiki/index.php/Feline_Panleucopeniahttp://www.vet.uga.edu/VPP/clerk/mcninch/index.php If your cat is an indoor cat many vets feel that they don't need the vaccines every year.Hope this helps!Pat
