Guest guest Posted January 18, 2007 Report Share Posted January 18, 2007 I know have brought this up before- and most likely will again. :-) This week Priscilla's Evan has again shown up in a very degrogatory video on youtube. If you do a search on Down Syndrome there, the first returns are all going to be very hard to take, to say the least. One will be a video with Evan's picture http://youtube.com/watch?v=3X3nAhCCSr0 This is where they got his picture- http://www.einstein-syndrome.com/house/evan_stories.htm Priscilla is on the DSIE list, so she can tell her own her story there... but bottom line is this is the second time this has happened to her, and if your child has his/her picture up on the net, or is out in public, they too are a target for this type of abuse. As long as this is allowed, none of the kids are safe. There are other videos up of people with DS taken in public places just to make fun of them. I have repeatedly flagged them for violation of their terms of usage which state malicious use of stereotypes is not allowed! One of the ladies on downsyn has suggested a fax attack today. Another parent and I are gathering all the e-mail addresses of the big DS groups and also any of your local ones, so we can all e-mail them and implore their participation in fighting this abuse on YouTube. So please send in any addresses you have. Then we will compile them in such a way as to make it easy to copy and paste them ALL into your email and you can send out quite a few at one time. As a side note.... I am so very tired of the big groups not doing anything about this kind of stuff. They claim to be all about education and promoting a positive view, yet turn their backs on this type of abuse. Look what the African American community has accomplished... or any other minority... you won't find any typical racial stereo typing on YouTube. We CAN change this!! It's just going to take ALL of us contacing them and our DS groups urging them to contact them as well, and not stopping til they take and keep these OFF of youtube!
