I never heard of doing this. I don't think guardianship of a typical 18 year old would be necessary. If the concern is healthcare you could get a health directive, don't think you even need a lawyer for that.

My typical son's big problem at 18 was all the credit card companies pushing credit cards on him. He (and lots of other college kids) got in debt with nothing to show for it. Took years to get out. Should I have "saved" him from that? It took that for him to learn about credit cards. I think it was better for him to learn at 18 when he could move back home to "recover" than later in life.

What other issues would guardianship of a typical 18 year old cover?

Can I ring here? We are taking legal guardianship of our very typical son who will be 18 next year. We explained to him why he needs to sign the papers and when we will reverse it. If, GOD FORBID, anything were to happen to him while away at college we wouldn't be able to make medical decisions, etc for him. So that is what we will do for all of our kids until they are out of college. We are fierce mama lion's aren't we?!?!??!
