Guest guest
We had one of those. :-) ( the test, not a panic attack.. well wait a minute.. I DID have one those too. Trust me, the test was much easier then the panic attack!) It was a breeze. Only issue was when the Dr pushed on 's tummy trying to see if anything came back up. Both dh and I got mad cause she was pushing HARD.. dh actually elbowed her away. ;o) Other then that, it was getting the barium down her, which they did with an ng tube if I recall. Back then using an NG tube seemed so normal it was just a non event.... but I am pretty sure we used it. Then they take lots of pictures as it moves through. I don't remember exactly how long it took....but but it was no where near a 6 hour test I think the 30-60 sounds right. She didn't have to just lay there for all that time though. She could get up and move around etc.... do you have one of those portable DVD players? Man.. those things are a real blessing for such a time as this. I read a study stating that kids feel less pain for blood drawers if they can watch TV while having it done. Maybe we can get insurance to pay for a DVD player. ;o) Good luck!! Hope this makes you relax . Carol in IL Mom to seven including , 6 with TOF, AVcanal, GERD, LS, Asthma, subglottal stenosis, chronic constipation ( cured now ) and DS. My problem is not how I look. It's how you see me. OT: urgent info about UGI?? Does anybody know anything about a UGI with small bowel follow thru? A barium xray? 's going tomorrow AM and like an idiot I succumbed to googling it and it says there that the bowel follow thru can be up to 6 hours long. They told us to expect 30-60 minutes at the hospital. Personally I think it will take 60 minutes to get an oz of barium down her. This is not the swallow study done for speech but the test for malabsorbtion and inflammation, ulcers etc. I'm starting to have panic attacks. I can't believe I'm still such a wreck after all these years! Sherry
Guest guest
Just an FYI about this test. Althought I felt alot better about the responses I received last night it did indeed turn out to be an all day event. About 5.5 hours of x-rays and a full 2 cups of barium. They wanted her to drink it lying down and dh said "no way". In any case it's over and hopefully we'll get some results soon. Sherry
