Guest guest
Passing this on from another listserv: ******************************************************** Hello again - to answer the last questions about tactile play - and making summer time fun - why not make play doh? Make it edible so if you are working with a oral motor tendency this won't hurt your child. Here is the link to recipes for making play doh. http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/play-doh-recipes.html There are many recipes and all different for smooth, textured with sand, edible with oatmeal and cinnamon (not recommended - but its basic food ingred) and many others including clay. Working on something in particular like letter recognition- make the play doh and shape it into the letters of their name or the first letter of your child's name. Make their initials and bake it or let it dry according to instructions and then let them paint their masterpiece. Hang them in their room! Hang it in the family room, give it to Grandma and Grandpa!! What a sensory accomplishment to know that " I Made that with Mommy or Daddy " " I did that all by myself! " Make it a win!!! Make balls roll the doh under the palm back and forth - take different colors and make marbled colored balls. Roll it flat and use cookie cutters (large plastic or metal ones are best - less details to get stuck thus creating less frustrations). With the balls you can count together. You can make the balls into the shapes of letters or numbers. Take a fork through it and make it like grass, shape dough into a tree or the sun. Let the imagination come through and just enjoy your time together. Creation of the mind is a wonderful place to be - does it matter that they are not making it exactly right? No because what is right? This is their imagination - watch as they grow and are having fun. One last idea - with our daughter yesterday we went to visit her friends who just had a new baby on Monday, Krystal is beautiful, but so is her baby brother who isn't much of a baby any more 2 next month! When we walked to the front door I looked down and saw a beautiful stepping stone that they had made with s foot prints. This one was done with the cement mix and they placed the pretty aquarium stones all around the outside edge of the circle, let it dry and laid it on the walk way to the front door. Before it dried they put 05' so they'd have it for the years to come. Some of the best times we can have with our children are when we are not trying so hard and those can be the best lessons of all also stress free! http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/play-doh-recipes.html Pass it on if you feel it could help a parent and child to have a better afternoon or just a new idea from an old time recipe! Here is to summer fun with our children, stress free as possible!!
