Guest guest
We also have the same problem--not as much anymore--Mac will stop and not move--but not necessarily the drop anymore. He is way too big for me to even attempt to move him--he weighs a solid 90 lbs--so I often have to "wait him out" or think of something fun to redirect him to get him to do what I want. We do a lot of preplanning by discussing what we are going to do--"We need to go to Wal-Mart. Mommy is going to get some food, toilet paper and paper towels. When Mommy is done if you stay with Mommy and are a good boy then we can go look at ______". Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...but I do think he's beginning to "get it". It can be SO frustrating. I know they have issues with this at school, too. Jill I | ..
Guest guest
Wow, I remember Jeff doing the Stop, drop, and flop! At the time I thought we were the only people in the world that went through this. Ah, those good ole' memories. I remember one day sitting down on the floor next to him in the grocery store and saying, "Well, I guess we will just stay here for a while... Too bad we will miss dinner tonight. Dad will have to eat by himself." He thought about it and promptly got up. Of course, people were walking by looking at me like I had lost my mind, sitting on the floor in the cereal aisle. Don't fret, parents. The kids do really grow out of all this! Guest guest
Sam is a big heavy boy now too and lifting him is not an option !! When he did decide to flop and drop we found that if we got really excited with him and laughed and started to run away from him he immediately jumped up and joined in the fun !! Yep ok , we did look a bit weird running through shopping centres but it was lots of fun and we all ended up laughing and it worked!!! He does not do it anymore really but I have gotten clever too. If he is tired I avoid taking him out walking . If I have to then we have lots of pit stops. Something like a windmill in his hand used to work to distract him when he was younger , now he brings his favourite toys and cars and will play when it gets boring for him. Talking to him a lot works ( signing or verbal). He gets a say on thinsg when we are out and about. We also do go to " his " shops too and once he knows this is coming ( we always leave his shops till last ) he is ok. When he was younger and did not understan d we would eventaully get to his shops we made a visual schedule so he knew the boring stuff would actually be coming to an end at some point!! Understanding why our kids drop is half the battle of dealing with this issue .. Tiredness boredom etc. I have used and will continue to use a stroller if I have too though. Sam is 6 now and wont fit in his one much longer anyway but it has been a godsend from time to time. We don't really mind how it looks, we are usually in a world of our own anyway chatting and so on to notice what other people think anymore !!!!
