Hello Carol,

I just stumbled across a website explaining about CCI (complex carb.

intolerance), a condition I've never heard of before except in

relation to SCD. On the website below it is stated that supplementing

with a specific enzyme deficient in most (or all?) people it is

possible to break up all complex carbs into monosaccharides. Now if

that were true it surely would make life easier for our kids on SCD,

wouldn't it? Somehow it all souds to easy to believe. There must be

some kind of catch in this, couldn't figure it out though, what do you

think?

It sounds like a marketing scheme to me. ;-) The list contains monsaccarhides for starters, so their info is not exactly correct. Having said that.... some people on SCD DO use enzymes to help aid the digesting of many different foods. Phenols being a big issue for many with ASD. Elaine was aware of them and felt it was more effective long term to heal the gut so it went back to producing it's OWN enzymes. When the gut starts to malfunction, one of the first symptoms is milk intolerance. Depending on the person, it can stay at that level, or keep deteriorating and stop producing more and more enzymes until you are 'allergic' to just about every food! I have enzymes here by Houstinni and they can really help. Esp when I branched out to allow some illegals ( to those new on SCD we are in our fourth year of the diet ). I have to say their

effects have been short lived and now I can't tell any difference in giving them. She seems to be fine on her own. When they were needed, you have to give a LOT!!!!! I can't imagine living like that and at the same time, you are not healing the gut at all and will be dependent on them. It's really the same as staying GF or avoiding the foods. Why not fix the problem, rather then address the symptoms. I wonder if the effects of the diet on development etc would the same with the enzymes or if the body produces more important chemicals then just the enzymes?? Serotonin I know is one thing it produces and I doubt using enzymes would help that at as well. The NVD protocol has enzymes, and they don't have nearly the effect as SCD did. I think they help for less serious problems then some of us have had with our kid's GI tracts. I wonder also if they lose their effectiveness after

a very long time of using them if the gut is not healed? So short answer- they can help, but they don't cure the gut. Also, brand does matter with enzymes, and I have never heard this brand mentioned. I also know as you age you slow down your production of enzymes- so maybe these would work for US. <G> Müller <mueller-winter@...> wrote: Hello Carol,I just stumbled across a website explaining
