You can get DVD/CD cleaners and we have had limited success in reviving DVD's --

a friend has used the " skins " and liked them but I always forget to look for

them when I am Wal-Mart.

Subject: Non-ds--protecting dvds

I don't know if it is just us or if others have this problem.  So many of the

dvd's and cd's we own don't last long--they start to play funny either in the

dvd player, computer or cd player in the car--skipping, stopping, going in slow

motion.  I imagine it is from my kids using them more than me and they aren't at

all careful with how they handle them.  I saw that Wal-Mart has these protective

" skins " that supposedly you can put on the dvd and it stays on permanently and

protects the dvd from damage.  Has anyone tried these?  Is there anything I can

do to clean or somehow " fix " damaged dvd's or cd's? JillMom to Mac & Kit

I have not tried the sleeves, if you do, would love to know if they work. The biggest losses here are computer discs because the brick mantel is RIGHT next to the hardrive. So they take out a disc then set it on the brick, then someone will come along and SIT on it. And these are regular OLDER supposedly kids who should know better too... <s> Anyway- things I have done to rescue discs- First off wash it in mild soap and water, rinse, dry well with a very soft cloth. I like cotton tee shirts. You are supposed to dry from the inside out if I remember correctly. Second- polish with Pledge, or my teen's fav disc rescue remedy is creamy peanut butter. Buff to a shine. There are some disc scratch remover kits that the kids have tried, but they always go back to the peanut butter or pledge. For me,

washing them typically does it as she seems to get juice on many of them.Jill <thrill@...> wrote: I don't know if it is just us or if others have this problem. Wow...I didn't even think it would be good to get them wet!! I can also try this with DVD's???

What do you mean dry from the inside out?? Do you mean from the middle of the CD/DVD to the outer edge? Just want to make sure I do it right.

THANKS!!

Jill

Yep... DVD'S, CD's and computer Software too. Are they DVD's or CD's???? I am behind the times ;-) Yes.. from the inside of the disc to outside. However, I just wipe it off myself. :-) Seems to be fine. Just use a VERY soft cloth. I typically just dip them in clean dishwater, which is always available, then rinse. DON'T use HOT water though! Just room temp- warm. And of course don't put a damp disc into that playing device. Make sure it's bone dry.Jill <thrill@...> wrote: Wow...I didn't even think it would be good to get them wet!!
