Guest guest
HI Tomorrow I have an IEP meeting to discuss what assessment tools will be used for Sara's Triennial. Now this meeting just popped up after they called, wanting me to come up to the school to sign authorization forms (for the tests) I said sure but please have a list of tests they will use with Sara. Five minutes later the school secretary called back with a request for an IEP meeting (to discuss this lol) Now for the last two evals, first one being an initial eval at age 3 and the 2nd was given at age 6, I let them do a Psychological Evaluation. This year I'm not..... with good reasons lol My question is I'm not sure of the names of tests that are Psych tests lol IQ tests, this is what they will probably suggest.......... Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale Anyone with any info???? or suggestions for alternative test tools? Thanks Kathy mom to Sara

I learned this at a workshop about the history of disabilities in this country at the same time my son was learning the same in his Pysch class in high school. We also learned that in the early part of the century, teachers, public workers, police, nurses, etc had a civic duty to report any " feeble minded " children they saw to the government, who in turn would come and take the children away from their families. I read a court case about a family in 1930 that was fined $250.00 for trying to keep their child! And one last fact that I will share with you I learned at this workshop ... no I will make you guess ...... what famous, very famous Virginia statesman, orator, politician, ambassador, a draftsman of the Declaration of Independence, a President of the United States, had a sister who was mentally retarded? ;-) Cheryl in VA

Guest guest
The Stanford Binet is an IQ test and NOT recommended for our children. It is verbally based. The Leiter (sp??) is a non verbal based test. I know there is a new one out, I just don't know the name. I say forgo any IQ testing if you can. > Title: Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales: Interview Edition, Expanded Form. Author: Sparrow-Sara-S; And Others. Abstract: This is a revision of the Vineland Social Maturity Scale and is used to assess personal and social sufficiency of people from birth to adulthood. The scales are applicable to both handicapped and nonhandicapped individuals. This form offers a more comprehensive assessment of adaptive behavior than the interview edition, survey form and includes 297 items from the survey form. It is administered in a semi-structured interview with a parent or caregiver of an individual from birth through 18 years of age or of a low functioning adult. A maladaptive behavior domain is included in this form as an optional section. Subtests: Communication; Daily Living Skills; Socialization; Motor Skills. Number of Test Items: 577. Guest guest
Hi! I'm assuming your talking about tests which yield and I'Q. score. Those tests would be the Stanford-Binet, or the Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children revised (a.k.a. WISC-R) or the Slosson test of Intelligence. Guest guest
IQ tests would be something like the WISC-R or the Stanford-Binet. I prefer the Leiter if they must do this. There is a Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale, and one other I can't remember but it starts with a B. I wouldn't allow psych tests either. Elaine 3 year eval. question asap > HI > > Tomorrow I have an IEP meeting to discuss what assessment tools will be used > for Sara's Triennial. And guess what, it was the same biographer ( Fawn Brodie, years ago) that first alluded to the Hemmings connection that also discovered the sister had MR. Historians dismissed her findings back when she wrote all this. Cheryl
