Do be careful . I wouldn't open it either. is not a very secure

site in my opinion. I get spam and viruses even though my computer is fully

armed and so they don't harm anything. It was on that someone cot hold of

Rs email and used the address to send out a virus to the whole CMLHope

group.

Just curious if anyone else has gotten an email that appears to be

from which says that your account needs to be updated and for

more information click on the attachment?

I'm thinking it looks like a virus so I don't want to open it. I have

Norton but I'd just as soon not test it to see if it really works.

Hi Tracey,

This would be a phishing email and you are right to ignore these. These

have become more common lately than viruses and your virus software

won't protect against these. The way these work is when you click on

the link it will send you to a page that looks just like the official

page of the site they are claiming to be (in this case it will look just

like ). It will ask for your credit card or other valuable

information but you will be giving it to someone other than the real

. This information is then used for identify theft. I've gotten

quite a few of these from someone claiming to be a financial institution

that I use lately. ALWAYS ignore these--a valid institution will NEVER

send you an email asking you to click a link to update information.

They are fishing (thus phishing) for information to be used for identity

theft.

Best wishes,

Dorothy

Hi Tracey,

It looks like you may have been Phish'ed. There are unscrupulous

individuals who are trying to steal personal information in order to commit

fraudulent activity using a technique called " Phishing " . A Phish e-mail

looks like an official site (from Paypal, E-bay, ,etc.), however the

e-mail will direct you to a unofficial website used to collect personal

information. Some of these Phish websites look exactly like the official

website. Do not respond to any e-mail that ask you for a your credit card

number, personal information such as social security number, mother's maiden

name, personal identification number (PIN), etc. If you have performed

an online purchase and there is question about your transaction, the best is

to call the organization you purchased. All good e-commerce websites will

have a telephone number for you to contact them directly.

Unfortunately, at this time there isn't any reliable computer software or

hardware products available to prevent you from being attacked. There are

companies working on detecting Phish attacks however the products are very

new and have not been widely tested.

Hope this information helps.

Take care.

Thanks Dorothy and for the info. I've since had two more (three

now in total) of these emails all claiming to be from . I guess

my gut was right that they were fishy. I'm glad I didn't bother with

them.

Thanks again,

Tracey

I got the same kind of email supposedly from verizon saying that my

email privileges had been suspended. This email also had an attachment

to open. I called verizon and they said the email was fake and it was

fortunate that I didn't open the attachment. Probably a virus.
