Guest guest
' younger brother Sam arrived from Los Angeles two days before Christmas. had not seen him in three years and was beside himself with joy. I told Sam we did not have the room to put him up, but he said he would stay with relatives and friends. He and spend most of Saturday together. Sam left to bunk with his uncle and visit cousins, etc. and said he would return to spend Christmas Day with us. Actually, Sam could have slept on our couch, but the last time he spent Christmas with us he was still sleeping on our couch in March and ran both my home phone and cell phone bills out of site. I told , and he agreed, that it would be a good idea if Sam not sleep on our couch any more. Sam did not show up Christmas Day, nor were we able to reach him. Early Wednesday morning both our phones went on the blitz while I was doing my email. Phone company, not wishing to commit itself, said they would be out to fix it between the time of the report and Friday at 7 pm. So, we sat around, not daring go anywhere and waited. They showed up Friday afternoon. Took the man a couple of hours to fix both lines. Meanwhile we located Sam via the cell phone and he said he was on his way over. He never showed. This happened every day last week. Finally we got word that Sam had hopped the bus back to Los Angeles on Saturday after telling his uncle he would drop by to see us on his way to the bus station. Again, he did not show. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday alternating between rage and gloomy depression over what Sam did to . and I discussed it a lot and I think I'm angrier with Sam than is. But knows his brother and knows he is not a promise keeper. He's always promising things and never following through on those promises. While all that was going on, my refrigerator door decided it no longer need be shut. In order to make it stay shut I have to jam the kitchen stool against it. I've spent most of the past week sitting around sulking. Sunday evening (last night ... New Years Eve) I threw myself into preparing our annual midnight supper. , and I had a lot of fun in the kitchen. In addition to the traditional black-eyed peas with hog jowls, and cabbage, we had duck à la'orange, rice dressing, giblet gravy and blackberry cobbler. We had a lovely party just the three of us. Happy New Year! granny --- " For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
