Guest guest
Well I went to see the speech therepist and she was so nice about my going to tribunal that I came away almost thinking I shouldn't do it!!! She agrees that I must do what I feel is right, seek a second opinon etc and she'll warn her manager. Mind you, some of the things she said might mean I don't actually have to go to tribunal anyway. He will continue for now fortnightly visits (in termtime) and she agrees that on transfer to junior he will almost certainly need at least fortnightly visits becoz all the staff will be new and unable to understand him for the most part. She also agrees to the fact that speech therepy will be reduced only after consultation with school and myself. She did say that more of speech therepy in itself will not improve tim any quicker than his daily language program which I agree with, however 1/2 termly leaves an awful lot of time for things to slip or be badly/incorrectly taught before she reassesses him. My point being she needs to come fortnightly to ensure his csa and myself are doing things right as well as assess him and do actual speech therepy with him. Anyway, if she was to write another report, worded differently, to include all this stuff and the LEA was to quote the new report then I wouldn't need to go to tribunal to secure his speech therepy as it would be safe until at least his annual review in october next year. And then if the LEA could see sense and supply the extra temporary support for tim in his statement for his transistion to junior school they could save them selves money by avoiding a tribunal altogether. Hmm, I wonder if I ask santa if he could do all this for me?!!! Sue Wong
Guest guest
<<But recently, over the last month or maybe longer, his speech has become almost completely unintelligable. A lot of it is deliberate nonsense talk on his part, babbling and making loud noises, but for the rest, when he thinks he is talking clearly, it is gibberish, I can't understand 90% or more of what he says. >> Hi Sue, This seems to be my experience with Ted. If I remember correctly, Tim is about 7. This was when Ted talked a lot and I could not understand most of it. Now I do...and he does continue to talk and talk and talk...hehe He says just kidding and it's a joke. He tells me all sort of things ....he has so much to say. I am still realizing that those that don't spend the kind of time that I do with him don't understand 90% of it. They will pick up a word or two that they recognize.
