Guest guest
Hi All I have had a very hectic month so far and haven't kept up on my email as I had hoped. So what else is new? LOL As most of you already know (14ds) was transferred (finally) to his home school just 2 months ago. Well he is thriving! When he first moved he could not read (altho he should have been) except for few words from memory. They have been working with him on it and he is up to a 2nd grade reading level already!! The school he transferred from said this at the IEP we had for the transfer. " is capable of reading but we don't have the resources or time to do so " Can you believe it?? My mouth fell open I said YOU WHAT?????? well I dropped it there as they were no longer going to be involved as he was here now. After the teacher form the old school left I stayed with his new teacher and she said to give her a week to evaluate him and if he was capable of reading they would do all they could to teach him such. I am so happy I finally got him moved here. He LOVES it and they ARE teaching him to read. He is also doing very well in his other academic studies. Altho he is not fully included in an 8th grade class. This is an extremely small school (approx. 300 kids total from pre-k to 12th) and in my opinion will do much better in the environment he is at. He is pulled for PE, art, and music. If there is a field trip for the 8th grade or middle school class they call and ask me if I think would like to go. So far they have had only one which he would have hated lol but the fact that they even ask is great seeing as I had forgotten to add this to his IEP. He also helps everyday with the Pre-k class as an aide to the teachers. The kids just love him. They come to get him on the way from lunch and if he is not there then there is one little boy who cries for him. :-) He goes on all of their field trips and will be with them along with his class for the Christmas program this Thursday. will also test for his Black belt in TKD this Sunday. He is very excited and has worked so very hard the past 3 years preparing for it. For the test all those testing were to write a 5 page speech to read at the test. Basically saying what the doctrine and Taekwondo mean to them. Being that this was an extreme task for he will read his name age and introduce his older brother (a 2nd degree Black) who will read the rest of the speech. Well wrote the speech for him by asking him a series of questions and the speech is beautiful! Made me cry lol Yikes looks like I have rambled on again hehe but I am just bursting with pride for him and all he has accomplished this year so far. For any of you who would like to read the speech email me and I will send it to you. Thanks for letting me ramble and a Very Merry Christmas to you all!!!!!
