I find it funny that so many of you get gifts for staff, my school has a no teacher gift policy. I think it was to protect the kids that can't afford to buy something. Since they'd have to watch some kid get thanked for being so sweet, but not be able to participate, thus feel left out. Joy

He wants a scooter (like the neighborhood kids), Toy Story 2, and a Pokeman book. No clothes, no drawers, no socks:))) He also wants a CD of the stinkin' Back Street Boys. Guest guest
Don't forget girl things: jewelry, nail polish, things like that. How about a brush and mirror set? We're getting Ian a game boy this year -- surprised the heck out of us to learn that he was able to use it. If not a game boy, how about a handheld game? Things for her room would be good too. I'm getting my daughter a small shelf unit that she can put her little doodads on (and don't all girls have thousands of little THINGS they keep around the house?). A lava lamp, or some other kind of lamp. CK, Mom to Ian (2/89), (9/90), and Rose (6/94)
Guest guest
Ian has always had a million teachers (well, usually between 12-18), and to get them all significant presents would be prohibitive. So I usually get the head teacher something like movie tickets, and then all of them get the same thing. In past years, I've done: - collapsible bread baskets I found at a craft fair (they go flat, but then you tie the corners to make them baskets), filled with gingerbread (which I make every year for everyone) - candy dishes from a large set of salad bowls I got on sale, filled with something, I can't remember, probably chocolate kisses - glass containers (from the dollar store) filled with Hints from Heloise's Friendship Tea This year, I'm giving them all holiday-themed votives. Guest guest
Hey Jackie, Just a word of warning about the TV/VCR combo.... We bought one for 's room, and we are sorry we did. They tend to be a little more expensive than the separate components, and when the VCR dies...which ours has, you are stuck. Considering VCR's are about $89 at Costco these days, I'd rather replace a few VCR's over the life of the TV. Guest guest
I am little late with this and since I am a bit behind in my mail I may not understand what is going on but I think someone is thinking of buying a TV/VCR combo for their kid???? I just wanted to add my $.02. I bought ours (we keep it in the kitchen 13 " ) from Sears. This works out great because Sears offers a maintenance agreement on their stuff. Anyway, we were told they weren't a good idea cause VCR's these days only last about 5 years (lots of plastic parts that wear out) and TV's will last at least 10. With the maintenance thingy you renew it each year and the TV and VCR are repaired for free. So for something like $30?? your kid could put a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the vcr and they have to fix it for nothing. I usually end up taking mine to be fixed a couple times a year but it is about 4-5 years old now and still working. (a 25 in screen I think) Oh except for the time we had to take it in and have it fixed because had tried to climb the chest of drawers it was on and dumped it on the floor. But I'd rather pay to fix the tv then have to fix her. I swear that kid has more lives then a cat, she didn't even have a bump, and thank God that the bed stopped the whol thing from actually landing on her. :-) Joy
Guest guest
I got and Noble gift certificates for the teachers and Blockbuster gift certificates for the bus driver and aide. I don't know if others will agree but I thought $10 was sufficient being as there are so many and that's all I could afford, so that's what I did for the school folks. My thinking was that they must be really tired of knick knack type stuff and could get more use out of these. is getting some videos, light brite, Techno Dog, fisher price roller skates that fit over the shoes, a couple board games like trouble and scooby doo, etc. Dawn (mom to 7ds) Re: Gift ideas :-) Sounds like some great ideas for the holidays. Guest guest
Lite brite is a classic. We got one for Jess years ago too (all our kids have had one) and she still fools with it sometimes. So does Corey. ;o) It seems to depend on how much she wants to make the picture vs the difficulty of manipulating all those little plastic pieces--which, btw, are murder on the vacuum and seem to multiply thru-out the house! Guest guest
Last year I did a teacher gift that went over pretty well, I think I even mentioned it here. Haagen Daz has gift certificates for $3 each (you get them on-line at their website, no shipping charges) and you just take the certificate anywhere that sells Haagen Daz and you get a pint of ice cream. I put the certificates in a little gift bag with a pint jar of homemade ice cream sauce. This year I am doing walnut cookies dipped in chocolate, with some homemade cocoa syrup...definitely on a budget this year. The bus driver is getting a 's fast food gift certificate. R.
