Hello, Feisties! I'm telling you all this, because I know you

understand (and very few people in our lives do . . .). My master's

thesis is due Monday 8am. I still have 20 pages to write and then do

some editing. And as you all know, keeping in one position -

especially at a computer - causes pain. So, this is now day 2 of my

crazy marathon week to finish this thing off. And the pain has set

in. Sleeping last night didn't stop it, and the longer I'm here the

more it hurts. I feel every joint stiffening up too . . .

Most people in my life know me as a good student and have said over

and over the last couple months that they know I can finish this,

that it will good, and I have nothing to worry. But, my feisty

friends, I do have things to worry about . . . this has not been a

comfortable couple months, what with spending my spare time at a

computer rather than stretching, swimming, walking (LOL!).

Anyhoo . . . I could use your thoughts (and your prayers if you are

a praying type) to make it through the next 3 days. The funny,

ironic, ha ha thing, is that I have my follow up appointment with

Dr. Booth the day this piece of work is due. So that will be a good

thing or a bad thing. He gets to look at my MRI where my stainless

steel rods threw arcs all through the important parts . . . (Story

for another time . . . the tech wasn't sure what to do about

stainless steel, since titanium rods are used now . . . he had to

change frequencies, etc., for each picture. What fun! On the

positive side, he had a great sense of humor, was very caring, and

put in lots of extra effort to make me as comfortable as possible.)

Wish me luck!

Deb M.

Hi Deb, I certainly will be thinking of you as you complete your work and

have your appointment. I was frightened to death during a recent MRI, since my

surgeon had told me never to get one. Since he is not around, I don't know

what his reason was. I think he laughed about me being " on a spit " , since he

warned me about anything " hot " . I digress. I hope that all goes well for you

on

both " fronts " !

Deb,

I think I know what you are going through. I am also a student (grad

school) and have a paper due Monday in my statistics class--I am glad

the fellow that invented the questionnaire I wanted to use was

answering his work email on Wednesday and sent me a copy of the

questionnaire. I also have 2 other papers I have been working on.

Professors sometimes expect students to devote their whole existence

to the pursuit of the degree, and they really do not have a clue how

much pain you are in or how much effort it takes to sit at a

computer.

I end up in a last minute crunch because when I get home from my job

and classes at the end of the day, I just want to rest for a few

minutes and hope the pain subsides a bit. Most days, I wake up

several hours later after everybody else is in bed. I get up and do

the things that have to be done (since I am a teacher, I have lots of

paperwork that needs to be done at home, too) and hope I get back to

bed. I think the last time I had a good night's sleep was when I

found out I had kidney stones and took some Lortab (I still woke up

thinking of everything I needed to do after taking flexeril when I

got hurt at work recently).

I think I need a few more days between now and Monday.

I would think Wednesday evening should be fine as long as you know for sure the new cast will be on Friday. I would wait til evening so that it is still as short of time as possible. That said, every facility is different. I know our doctor doesn't like it to be off prior to casting day at all. But we usually take her out the night before.

Hello all!Aly is at the end of her first casting and we are debating on when to take it off. She gets her second on Friday am in Philly. I work a double on Thursday, so I'd like to take it off on Wednesday afternoon so we can have some snuggle and bath time. Is that too long out of cast? Should I just let Kenny take it off on Thursday? Just wondering what some of your experiences were. When we called, Shriners was pretty vague about how/where/when to remove it. We are gonna do it ourselves-- KRISTI, you and Mike might get a call! Lol-AmySent from my iPhone 4

In my opinion, that is fine. We usually take joshua's cast off arond three or

four days before he gets his new one on.

Our doctor tells us no longer than a week. We do extra time because my little one has skin issues, so we take that week....but I'm pretty sure most families do not go that long. If your doctor hasn't given you a concrete answer, I think you would be okay to take it off Wenesday for a Friday cast.
