Guest guest
Yes, Lynn, I too have been having this for over a year. I am 2 1/3 years on 400 mg Gleevec. Last year my ONC didn't know what it was but thought it looked like a bacterial type infection by didn't know. Had me start using anti-bacterial soap and it seemed to help some. It almost disappeared during the winter but in May it started happening again. I had my visit with him May 26 and he noticed it but did not have any new recommendations. I am not really good about using my UV protection, so it could be the UV's I get driving to and from work with short sleeves on. When I work in the yard I wear long sleeves and collar turned up with my wife's Cancer Survivor straw hat. I prespire (really sweat gallons)so trying to keep use a good sun screen is only good for about 10 minutes and in addition to that I can't find one that I can use close to my eyes without it burning and tearing me up until I can't see for about 30 minutes. The good news is that I am still stable with the Qpcr at .001 first section and .040 in the second section. He had it read by two other people beside himself and the lab. They all agreed that I should reduce my visits from 4 to 3 times a year. Guest guest
just a question: what is c-kit? chris F. [ ] Strange breakouts on arms Hi everyone, I have something that has been going on with me lately. I've been getting strange " breakouts " on the outside of my upper arms and on the top of the forearm. The breakouts are like pimples but they resemble goosebumps. My arms are also getting really blotchy with reddish pigmenty dots. Plus, since I don't go in the sun anymore, I am really fair, so it shows up more and now I'm very self conscious wearing anything short sleeved. I usually get these breakouts when I get the " Gleevec " run down, fatigued feeling. I get this when I overdo it with my activities, and I pay the price of it when I'm nearly horizontal the next day. I realize that Gleevec blocks C-Kit but was just wondering if anyone else in the group gets these breakouts? I " ve been taking Gleevec 400 mg for 1 1/2 years now. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
I found this on the cmlsupport.com website to help explain c- kit. Hope it helps. Lynn (Snickersunny) STI-571 is an inhibitor of the bcr-abl tyrosine kinase, which has a major role in the pathogenesis of chronic myeloid leukemia. It is also an inhibitor of the PDGFR and c-kit receptor tyrosine kinases. 2,3 The latter two kinases have critical roles in normal pigmentation. Mutations in their genes, reducing or abrogating the respective enzyme activities, are associated with loss of pigmentation due to interruption of the development and differentiation of melanocytes. 4-6 Accordingly, certain hereditary hypopigmentary disorders like piebaldism and vitiligo are associated with mutations in the c-kit gene causing alterations in the respective tyrosine kinases. 7-8 --- In , " Finsand " <chrisfinsand2@m...> wrote: > just a question: what is c-kit? > chris F. > [ ] Strange breakouts on arms > > > Hi everyone, > > I have something that has been going on with me lately.
