Guest guest
Well, here I am on day 2 of my 5-day IV Solu-Medrol sentence. Day 1 was yucky, and I hate having the IV catheter stuck in my right forearm. I didn't have a compliant vein in my left arm, and I'm right-handed. The nurse who squeezed, slapped, pinched, stabbed, intubated, and instructed me was very kind, though, and enjoyed my sense of humor. (Keep laughing so you don't cry...) It was also great to be at home so I could go to bed after she left and curl up with my bottle and warm up the refrigerated liquid in my veins. I wish I could say that I'm just like Carole and have felt nothing untoward. In truth I've had just about every side-effect that was predicted. I've had a metallic taste in my mouth, a little mild stomach pain, jitters, bloating, weepiness, silliness, and, thanks to my husband's ever-available glucometer, I also know I've had elevated blood glucose. (Maybe there's something to the saying " Ignorance is bliss " !) I've also felt unpredicted pain -- not very strong, really, more of " discomfort " as the fluid enters my vein -- as well as a touch of light-headedness, lower backache, and mild headache. The doctor didn't think it would feel like super PMS, but WHAT THE HECK DOES HE KNOW?!!! Come to think of it I probably have PMS too. My " semi-adopted " neighbor kid was over today, a 15-year-old with ADHD, and we played a wonderfully slapstick game of Snap Dragon (a cute kinetic kids' game played with big-eyed, marble-munching toy dragons, whose aim is to snap up the most marbles and be the winner). She also helped me watch another drug-pushing video for an interferon-type injectable MS therapy. This stuff is definitely better done with a pal. Anyway, I know this isn't an MS support group, so no need to solve my problems. I love knowing you folks are pulling for me, though, even though this is April in Paris compared to scoliosis revision (from what I hear, but hey, what the heck do I know? I've never even been to Paris! I haven't even gotten up the courage to shake hands with Rand!) Maybe I'll be loopy enough tomorrow to take a picture of me with my " Playtex Nurser " IV bottle, and I can post you all a link to it. Hugs and kisses, Your chemically nutty and ever Feisty friend, Sharon (in icy, vitamin D-deprived, seasonal affective dissorder-laden, " Live Free or Die " ...........NEW HAMPSHIRE) ;^)
