(At long last!) QUESTION OF THE WEEK, 04-21-2010

It's funny that I just got this post after returning from sanding walls at a new loft dance studio. Several years ago, my daughter introduced me to tribal belly dance. She wanted me to come to a new class and we were both hooked. I could manage most moves even after 2 operations at 8 and 16 including fusions and the lovely Harrington rod. Unfortunately, about 2 years ago while stretching for class I really did my back in, hence my revision operation down to my sacrum in Dec. of 2008. yeah...belly dancing days are over. Even with my crazy back that feels like a big board, I still manage to do alot. My kids even made me surf in Hawaii last Thanksgiving. Good thing I have good balance because it took a bit to get from lying flat on a board to standing while catching a wave. My children, grown, still want me

to do everything with them....they want me to go to a climbing wall with them....ummmm..not so sure about that one.

ANYWAYS, back to the question...I miss the creative outlet of dancing and in my younger days I sang. So, this July my daughter is organizing a Woodstock Belly dance Fest which will be a big outdoor deal and they will dance to music from that festival. She immediately grabbed the song "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess and she didn't know what recording to use to dance to. I kept thinking about how much I miss that whole creative crowd and got the guts to ask if I could sing it live with a drummer...I gave her a sample and she said "yes'! I am so excited, but very nervous...been a long time since singing in public but I know it will help me get in touch with that lost creative side that longs to come out.

I would love to learn how to draw and paint and I think this summer that is on my list of "things to do" since I already took my vacation during Thanksgiving. I think as ALL people get older that it is important to have other fulfilling activities to take the place of physical ones.

Thanks for the "question of the week"----very timely for me! lynn Langford
