Hello to all,

I found your group while looking for information for my sister whom

lives in Houston, Texas. She herself does not have a computer or

online services to use in her search for information. So I am doing it

for her in an effort to try to help her.

I myself do not have scoliosis, but decided to join your group for the

above mentioned reasons.

My sister had surgery in 1980 and had Harrington Rods inserted at the

age of 11. Since this time her spine has continued to curve and from

reading here about flat back syndrome, have looked for more

information concerning this condition also. From what she is telling

me I am sure she has also developed this condition like so many of you

here.

Recently we helped her file for Social Security and I attempted to get

copies of her medical records in Dayton, Ohio. While at the hospital

office, the director of medical records asked me if this was

regarding the class action lawsuit that was filed. Of which we knew

nothing about, but myself and my older brother are attempting to find

out information regarding this in our attempts to help our younger

sister.

I did find some old post here from 2004 regarding the possibility of

this, which meets up with the time line that the director of medical

records spoke of, but nothing that stated that this had actually been

done. I also read many of the posts that were posted stating that you

would never think about doing such a thing. Which I suppose would be a

matter of personnel choice. However I was able to find

some reference's here and there across the internet stating that were

cases filed which may have been individual cases, but not a class

action case.

So my question is does anyone know of this class action lawsuit, was

it ever filed, if so was it settled, what happened

with it, any information would be of interest to her.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond to my post.

God Bless,

A Big Sis Trying to Help A Little Sis

Becky

Hi Becky and welcome to our group,

I'm sorry your sister is having problems. If she hasn't already done

so, I'd suggest she consult with a specialist who has a lot of

experience with us Harrington Rod patients. There is a list of

possible doctors in the " Files section " of our site that might be

useful to her. Please feel free to post any of your sister's

questions or concerns at our site.

I know for me it was and is very comforting to know I am not alone

with the problems I'm having and helpful to have the support and

concern of the members of this group. I don't recall hearing of any

class action suits regarding Harrington Rods. While the Harrington

Rod has caused late-onset problems for a lot of people, I've learned

from this and other flatback support sites that it has also saved the

lives of many. It's unfortunate that medicine is not an exact science,

but thankfully there have been improvements in technology and

technique. I'm thankful there are doctors out there who continue to

try to help us patients who have ongoing problems and pain. I hope

your sister will consult with a good one who can give her some advice

and options for relief.

Please let us know if we can help her in any way, and thanks for

writing on her behalf,

loriann
