Actually it is pretty anticlimatic as the marrow is couriered (like an organ transplant) from the donor to Minneapolis and then hung in an IV bag. Then it travels through Tommy's hickman catheter into his bloodstream. There will be a little blessing ceremony when he gets his transplant. Then the waiting begins. Engraftment is when the marrow finds its way to where it is supposed to go and " engrafts " and starts taking over as the new immune system. This is the long part and the " bad days " for Tommy (from what I understand). I am asking that you say a special prayer tomorrow for Tommy and for that most generous, anonymous 41 year old male donor who will truly be " giving of himself " .
