Beth - Maybe I should give it Neurontin longer or just go slower in

adjusting. Today I cut back to 3 a day again so that I can meet a friend

tomorrow and

not fall asleep in my hamburger...and sure enough I haven't been as sleepy.

The back pain is worse though - ugh! I think the key is finding the right

dosage just as you have - one that works w/o the lousy side effects.

A " nick? " That sounds awful! The consequences of a tiny error had a big

impact on your recovery and your life. Drs are human and to me it's amazing this

doesn't happen more often. I'm glad you recovered past that and hopefully

didn't have any lasting effects - just dealing w/the consequences of flatback

or

revision surgery (as most of us experienced it) is challenge enough! Take

care and thanks for the info! Jennie

Dear Jennie,

I have not experienced many side-effects from the Neurontin. I did notice that I

was a bit sleepier than usual each time my doc increased and/or adjusted my

dosages on Neurontin over the past 3 years, but even that subsided once I had

taken it for a few days.

Immediadely after my revision (June 2000), my Ortho surgeon had me on

Topomax;but I honestly can't tell you if it helped my neuropathy much back then

because I had so much spinal cord swelling post-op (thanks to a little " nick " in

the dura intra-operatively trying to get my upper hook out) that I had severe

bi-lateral neuropathy and numbness in my legs for about 8 months post-op. Once

all that settled down, I was left with the neuropathy and numbness in my left

leg only...the leg that had been the bain of my existance for years!

It was only after I began seeing a Pain Management physician that I was placed

on Neurontin and have had great relief with it. I hope you'll be able to find a

group of meds that can help you.

All the best,

Beth
