Guest guest
,The Abdominal reflex works on a different protection mechanism that the Fear P. reflex does. FP activates freezing which can be thought of the most primitive protection reaction - the Opossum is the perfect model. A more advanced response to sensing danger is Fight or Flight, which can be found in closer to our higher cognitive functions. Fight or Flight is the response of the Sympathetic Nervous System - SNS, which moves blood the the extremities, releases Adrenaline, enhances peripheral vision etc. Rest and Digestion are the other function of this primary neurological guidance system (Autonomic Nervous System - ANS). With rest and digestion, blood is moved to the core, insulin is released, vision focuses on locating goodies to eat. This aspect of the ANS is called Parasympathetic Nervous System - PNS. The Abdominal reflex is neuromotor expression of the PNS, and re-patterning it is a very good way to deal with a hyperactive SNS. Freezing (Fear Paralysis Reflex) is observed as the most primitive response to threat, which we share with some of our most distant relatives, single cell organisms. Because this reflex resides so deeply in the fabric of our sensory - motor system, it is ill advised to recalibrate it willy-nilly. This is why coaching in how to do this is reserved for personal instruction. The ANS is a much more sophisticated processing tool, which can soak up a lot of information and re-calibrate itself on the fly. This is why re-patterning the Abdominal reflex can be done frequently and with enthusiasm. -- Esty 415.350.4868 http://www.organicbalance.usHIPPA Requirement: This email and any associated files may contain confidential information that is legally privileged or otherwise protected.
