In children with challenges, the sense of touch is often poorly regulated. A hypersensitive child may demonstrate tactile defensiveness by withdrawing from touch, refusing certain kinds of clothing, avoiding certain textures, and disliking fine motor activities. When the tactile sense is deficient, a child may seek excessive stimulation and seem insensitive to pain.

Children who are born with abnormal tactile sensitivity do not receive reliable information through their skin. As a result they feel insecure or fearful in unfamiliar situations and are often unwilling to take the risks required for learning new things.  Other children are unable to develop trust because they have experienced too much punitive or inappropriate invasive touch. In both cases the nervous system are entirely mobilized for survival or protection and cannot support exploration and development.

Participants of this live MNRI™ course will attend all 16 hours and satisfactorily participate in both the course discussion and hands-on supervised practice. This course is designed to create a clear understanding of the process of the MNRI™ Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile Integration. Participants that utilize this approach in their professional and home settings will be able to use the results-oriented specialized Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile Integration techniques to provide support in the physical-cognitive learning process, monitor each client’s learning, provide systematic interventions, and utilize collective inquiry/feedback techniques to create a collaborative therapeutic atmosphere. The Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile Integration techniques and reflective exercises contained in the book, Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile Integration by Svetlana Masgutova, Ph.D., will form the foundation for the course.

In this course participants will:-       Discover how the therapeutic technique of Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile Integration “is a form of neuro-stimulation        that activates different skin and proprioceptive receptors for the integration of the sensory system {as an integral

part of the mind/body system} for improved life skill and academic functioning throughout the lifespan.-       Explore and discuss research regarding how individuals with challenges are often identified as having poorly

        regulated tactile integration.

-       Understand and apply the Masgutova Method™ of Neuro-Sensory-Motor Tactile IntegrationÒ techniques for         developing, integrating and maturing nine specialized skin receptors.-       Identify and explain types of neurons and the divisions found within the PNS while exploring how the nervous

system functions as a whole to control and coordinate the body system.

-       Identify, define, and classify nine types of sensory receptor cells found within the peripheral and central nervous         system that contribute to an individual’s ability to process sensory stimuli and learn from his/her relationships to

        self, others and the environment.

-       Analyze and differentiate between conscious and subconscious, somatic and specialized senses and how these         senses impact learning in a variety of settings and social situations.-       Compare and contrast subconscious somatic and visceral stimuli while gaining an understanding of how the

variation of stimuli influences learning, social/emotional and tactile development for individuals with challenges.

-       Comprehend, discuss, and apply course information/ techniques on how tactile receptors are activated and         integrated using lengthening/ stretching, rotation, compression/ traction and deep pressure touch strategies and

how these techniques re-educate the proprioceptive system for improving functioning and learning.

-       Identify, rehearse and implement NTI techniques for developing clinical skills for facilitating body awareness and         spatial skills with clients.-       Identify, rehearse and implement NTI techniques for activating physiological and structural connections between

skin, muscles, tendons and bones; and alleviating the negative physical and psychological effects of decreased         sensory stimuli.

-       Apply this MNRI ™ program to develop individual corrective programs based on assessment techniques and         exercises for integration of given reflexes to enhance overall emotional, motivational and movement challenges.

-       Explore the possibilities for positive changes in body structure, posture and movement development through         integration of the NTI MNRI™ processes.ABOUT TAWNI LAWRENCETAWNI LAWRENCE, LMT:  Tawni has actively studied many fields of Kinesiology since 1987.  She is a teacher of Brain Gym®, Touch for Health 1-4, Rafferty’s Kinergetics 1-8 and RESET Instructor Training as well as Tobar’s Celestial Hologram, Chakra Hologram and Brain Formatting.  She is also trained in Kreb’s LEAP, other works of Hugo Tobar, Utt’s Applied Physiology, Bruce Dewe’s PKP system as well as other techniques.  She also enjoys her private practice.
