Guest guest
Loriann, I have seen both an ortho foot surgeon and podiatrist for my bunions. I found the biggest difference in the fact that the surgeon offered no alternatives other than surgery and the podiatrist discussed surgery and other things I can do to minimize the pain. She made a kind of home made orthotic to see if that would take the pressure off the big toe joint which is quite arthritic. I was surprised that it actually worked. I saw her today for a two week follow up and she will order custom orthotics for me. My only problem now is insurance. Blue Cross won't pay for " routine " foot care unless you are diabetic. Go figure. Both the ortho surgeon and podiatrist recommended the same shoe stores and if I ever decide to have surgery I wouldn't know who I would have do it, since they both recommended different procedures. Hopefully that's a long way off. Right now I'll continue to see Dr. , the podiatrist because she has helped me and she listens. I'll fight with Blue Cross when I'm up to it. Hope this answers your questions. Barbara
